Acceptable or Not?

I recently ordered a set a of dark tails from my dealer and they have finally arrived. I noticed one light has some scratches on interior part of the lense. The same light also has a piece of what looks to be a shaving of metal inside the lense. You can’t see the scratches unless you are underneath them, but they are there. Is this something that you guys would accept or send back?

It’s hard to tell from the pictures but I might be more concerned about the shavings than the scratches. If you bought them through the dealer then I’d be recommend that you return them but only you can decide if you’re willing to wait the extra time for a replacement.

Return them. They're too expensive to accept imperfections and the shavings inside might cause more damage as time goes on. A little effort now could eliminate headaches later.

Return them....too dam expensive to accept flaws!

I bought them out of state but was told I can bring them to any dealer as long as I have the invoice sheet. I’ll be returning them this week. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

looks like they were already returned by someone else.

As already said bring them back

Were they still boxed when you picked them up? I have a set of OEM red ones from the dealer, each one was individually boxed (sealed) and very well protected inside the box

Both tail lights arrived in one big box. They were in bags. I’ve noticed some very fine scratches on the lens too. I thought new tail lights were supposed to have green tape over the lens to protect them?

Yep, what everyone else said: Bring them back!
If I was dropping that kind of coin, they should be in "new shape" not even the scratches would be acceptable!:yikes:

Are those supposed to be genuine GM smoked rear taillights? Because that’s not how the ones I put on my SS 1LE came from the dealer when I ordered them. The packaging was different. I sold the factory red taillights and put them in the same boxes the GM smoked tail lights came in. The GM stickers on the boxes are for the smoked tail lights, for reference.

My set came in three separate, well padded boxes, two smaller ones for the left and the right taillight, and one large enough to accommodate the two. All three boxes had a GM part number sticker with the barcode and part numbers (84136775 for the left, 84136776 for the right taillight, and 84136777 for the package "part" that was essentially the largest box).

In hindsight, those scratches would buff out easily, but the shavings are of concern. Returning it was your best and safest choice.

EDIT: heck, I've found the boxes in the basement, here's what they looked like back in 2018. The box for the right side tail is similar, of course.

I originally ordered a set of dark lights from a dealer in CA since they were one of the last sets available (84136777). The tail lights came in boxes like yours with the part #s on top. The numbers on the box were correct but the lights were for a 2019. They sent me these and said they were straight from GM. I wonder if these were already returned or maybe they were packaged differently because they are no longer sold as an accessory. I might have my local dealer order a new set and return both of these

Only one has a shaving but maybe I should return both? It almost looks like the scratches were caused by rubbing dirt and dust against the lens. Other than the bag, there were broken pieces of foam somewhat protecting it during shipment.
