Manufacturers cant get chips for AFM and auto start/stop. Where are they going to get them for this tech.

I don't drink at all so I'd prefer not to have useless tech on my cars.
Big brother wants to monitor and control everything you do. My friends in China say they don't have crime problems because facial recognition cameras are watching everything. The Police will be at your door in minutes. I've also seen them afraid to talk openly for fear someone is listening. Don't open the door to this here. |

my take- not sure I want another piece of electronics on a car to break and leave me stranded somewhere but..... I'm ok with some nanny to check people/me as drunks don't need to be on the road but the reality is it'll be 25+ years before this is mainstream with older cars on the road. habitual drunks will just keep buying used cars that don't have it installed for many years to come. how about instead of "punishing" everyone, we make laws that actually punish someone and remove years of appeals. guilty is guilty. do the crime, do a crapton of time. lawyers should not be able to get a guy that blows a .22 off due to technicalities... |
Driver safety tech is ok as long as it is executed properly. Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, collision warning systems, parking sensors, backup cameras, etc. are all nice drivers aids and I welcome that kind of tech. I am not a fan of the big brother systems.

Apparently in Nevada if you rear end someone at 150+ mph the fire dept is expected to already be on site to extinguish the fire. |
Hope it doesn’t register fast driving or being on the track as a problem.
Agreed, I like safe but this may be too much. Instead, require anyone with a single dui to install (and pay for) such electronics and leave the other 330M people alone. |
With all the other safety systems that are already out there...I'm just not sure where they can go next without some type of breathalyzer. Millions of dollars on R&D that get passed on to buyers for a system that I have a hard time believing with be both unintrusive and reliable.

I jest. sure he will be going away for a LONG time. or probation depending on the lawyer. that's really the issue as you call out.... anyone live here or visit here, every friggin billboard on the highway is either "in a wreck need a check" or "injured in a hotel and want compensation?".... local news I watch is sponsored by 3 major injury firms. sad..... |
So basically every time you start your car you are considered guilty of drunk driving until you prove yourself innocent...........

Won’t make a difference. With new “super cruises” coming out they can set that and not worry about weaving all over. Texting and driving is bigger issue now days than the drunks.
