Magnuson VS Edelbrock 2650 questions

Now that the Magnuson is hitting the market i am curious to what the Mag has to offer over the Edelbrock. I know no hood cutting for the Mag, but Valve covers need to be modded or replaced. I also see it is two cooling bricks instead of 1 large one.

Questions; any advantage of two vs 1 large cooling brick? Any other mods on the Mag that are not visually apparent? Basically, are they the same in performance and just have to decide on price and if hood or vc going to be modded?

For me, I would think either would meet my goals of 700-750rwhp with appropriate other parts such as Cam, TB, CAI, Exhaust, and Tune.

For that HP you don't need a 2650. The 2300 is more then sufficient.

I agree, but thinking long term. Pricing isn't too much different and if i change my mind later on, i have more room to grow. But you are correct, the 2300 would do the job too.

2 weeks ago I would have agreed with you 100%. Now after running the Magnuson 2650 on my LT4, I can tell you I was wrong. I am making 100 HP more on straight 91 octane (no water/meth) with the 2650 than I was with the 2300.
I honestly expected no more than 20 HP from the swap.

Really going to be interesting to see how the LT1 responds to this unit. We'll be running today, but will probably not get the dyno work finished until the weekend.

The biggest unseen difference will be the patent pending Magnuson Stage 2 housing in the Magnum DI, it's capable of at least 150HP more at the top end compared to competitors TVS2650 products.

As you can see I'm making 700+ RWHP with no mods but the blower, 103mm TB and CAI on 91 octane pump (no meth). Turning the water/meth on and dropping pulley size by 5mm get it to 818 RWHP on an otherwise stock LT4 (I assume you're referring to your ZL1?)

Yes, for my ZL1. I don't see any info at all on the Magnuson website about the unit. Didn't even know there were housing options.

Are there any 2300's left out there to buy, new? I was not searching hard, but when i looked last, i concluded they must be all gone.

Yes, Heartbeat DI 2300s are available and will continue to be.

The Magnum DI is only available as a Stage 2 housing, we don't have the full kits released yet (a couple more weeks), so the installs that you've seen to date are "head unit" installs where the shops mod as needed. There is very few parts needed for an LT4 install, mainly the relocation brackets for coils when using the stock valve covers and we don't have them in stock yet.

Well, the good thing is I am not in a hurry. I will just keep checking the website. Would still like to know what else is different besides height and cooling compared to the Edelbrock unit.

@toohighpsi - when you say no mods “but”... What exactly did you add to the LT4 to get to 700hp? 2650, 103mm TB, big gulp, and a tune? Exhaust? Fuel? Cam?

laynlo15 07-04-2019 05:55 AM

Mike's car has stock cam, stock exhaust, stock heads and on 91 pump gas and of course his tune. I just got mine yesterday and will install on Saturday, I expect to see an additional 100 rwhp, I could make much more but I don't have an additional low side fuel system such as a Dsx. I'm pulling off my 2300 that made just about 800 rwhp so if my fuel system will handle it we could be close to 900 with the 2650. At some point I will upgrade my fuel system and we will see where we go from there. We are detuned right now to about 770 to try and not break suspension parts or drivetrain (axles) so I'm thinking we will come in about 870 with my current setup with the 2650. Hope to see everyone at the Camaro Fest.

Any details on the Stage 2 housing...? Still fit underhood and flow more CFM similar to comparison of 2300R to a 2300?

IneedAZ 07-05-2019 12:16 PM

Again, still looking for what else is different in the Mag vs Edelbrock besides height and cooling bricks. Anybody have a pic of the Mags cooling bricks?
