Wicker bill on track?

Anyone have any data regarding the effectiveness of the wicker bill vs. stock on the track? I am wondering if the that is a good mod for track use. Was also thinking of the ZL1 front bits for some down force as well. Thoughts? Birdman

I can tell you at ACS my car starting to understeer after a few hot laps especially on turn 9. Thinking of the samething but Im being picky as well....

I concluded in me adjusting my driving habits going into the braking zone a bit harder setting the front down more and adjusting my throttle out of mid corner once the car is ready to lay down power wihout pushing.

Look into my stats page or go into the sticky thread on ((track video and pictures) You can see in some laps I would push and other laps it was neutral out of turn 9.

To be honest go out a few track days before going nuts on wicker bill and extended splitter. I was laying down some damn good lap times as is. BigWillow I ran a bit faster from my lap times compared to my gen5 1LE.The car stayed balanced with no additional aero.

Have not been to Buttonwillow just yet now I can see where you might add more aero on that track.. Hopefully if my budget will allow me to hit that track. I got about 1 more good trackday on the current tires. $1300 tends to sting this early in the season of the year so we will see... Hope to see you out at the track. I got your #... from the earlier post.

Bottom line is the car is freaking awesome out of the box. Oh also tape up your rear quarter panels because it will piss you off if you dont. The car is worse on being peppered than the gen5 did in that area. Lookin to add some vinyl in that section much like the hood wrap. I got the gm rock guards but they are not as good as the zl1 addons... should have bought those.. hindsight..

The car is superbly balanced as is. If you add aero to the rear only youll get more understeer in fast corners.
It is much easier and cheaper to solve any handling issues with a rear toe setting. If you want it more stable and tighter then dial more in. Looser: do the opposite. NB this should be dialed right anyway before contemplating any other changes. Imo.

You're right about turning in the rear toe in. Thanks for that ... I might do that on my next tire purchase on the alignment. The shop is very good in setting me up to what is adjustable ..

Thanks Richard! Yes, I plan on setting a baseline time with a stock car and then adding some bits after I get some seat time. I also noticed some dings starting and read the thread on the damage from the tires. I ordered the ZL1 pieces and will install before I drive again, then probably add some clear vinyl in those areas as well. I am excited to hit the track and hope to go in June with Speed Ventures.

Is the consensus alignment setting -2.5 in front and -1.5 in the back?

Ask them to max out the front. It varies a bit for some reason car to car or maybe tech to tech...

I've been running at ~-2.8 / ~1.8 for a year. I'm sure there is variation between machines. Think actuals were -2.76 / -1.78.

On the wickerbill, I've been running it for a year, too, but, for looks. The GM version is much smaller / shorter than a lot of aftermarket. I have ran it on and off with not any real benefit in overall lap times: a bit more understeer in places, better planted feel in others, probably one mph down on a 120mph straight, etc. I like the looks well enough to leave it. My GoPro, on track days, right in the center / rear of the trunklid probably does something to mess up airflow, too.

For data, one of these days, I'm going to run it on then off and log voltage (via MDI2) to the four ride height sensors on a smooth road / track at a few speeds. Then, I'll see what weight I have to add to each corner to see same results. I can then reasonably tell what downforce (or lift) component in pounds I have at a given speed with it. As you compress the sensors / lower the ride height, the voltage goes up (0 - 5 volt range).

That is an interesting idea....please post the results. Anyone run the front bits from a ZL1 on the SS 1LE? Seems like it would work well with the wicker bill.

Any weirdness on track? like light front end or more understeer? not sure if you're experienced enough to notice or not (no dig) but just wondering thinking about returning mine
