fine for removed secondary cats in Philadelphia?
Might be moving from SC to PA for about 1 to 1.5 years for a job. My car already has the secondary cats removed. What will the fine be?

As long as you pass the OBDII scan, no CEL all the monitors passed, and a visual, you are good. If you fail the visual, the only thing you might remotely fail for, there is no fine, you just have to spend up to $xxx to repair before you get a waiver until next inspection. If there's anyway to maintain your SC registration, you don't even have to worry about it. Clown down the street had Michigan tags on his cars for close to 10 years, now he has PA antique or classic tags on 20 year old POS beaters just to avoid inspections and insurance. Be prepared for a culture shock coming from South Carolina to Philly. :smm7: Oh yeah, the roads are beyond total crap for the most part until you get away from the urban areas, then they can be amazing. |
Their are plenty of small shops in the city. Find one in your area and ask. We're all human, a "I'm new to the neighborhood" chat and some kindness go a long way. If you come, welcome to Philly.

Good info thanks guys! We’ll see how it pans out. I’ll be changing registration from SC to PA for sure because the vehicle property tax isn’t paid up front in SC so I pay about $600 a year. It’s my understanding I won’t have to pay anything in PA.

Also, if it matters, a vehicle driven less than 5000 miles a year is exempt from emissions testing. |

As long as the primary cat(s) is there, they'll pass it. My SS has window tint - illegal in PA, and he passes it every time! OTOH: they used to sell fake cats - just plastic boxes that snap together over the pipe. Just there for visual insp, most late model cars run clean, even w/o cats, so the emissions insp will pass the tailpipe test. |
It's OBD2, they won't do a tail pipe test unless the middle of PA is stuck in the stone ages lol
