AFM disabler

Anyone using an AFM (active fuel management) disabler that hooks up to the OBD port?

Pros....Cons?

I had one on my 5th gen, LOVED IT!

Had the Range AFM disabler (v8.2 I think? 8.something) and it worked great the first day no issues... second day it threw a CEL. Haven't tried it again since - made me paranoid :/

Yeah...range is saying you can get the latest firmware on the device for free..but they also state "there is still a small chance of it happening"....throwing a simple code that is....

I had one CEL, removed Range, cleared code, returned for free update, never happened again. Again IMHO it's GREAT, I HATED 4 cylinder mode.

It will still throw a CEL. No matter what version you have. I just sucked it up and bought a DiAbloSport trinity. You can tune it out yourself with a handheld or get a performance shop to tune it out.

Disabling the AFM will not affect the durability of the AFM lifters. Even the manual trans cars have them, it just doesn't activate them.

I have never thrown a code in two years with my range on a V-6. That being said, I rarely use it because the V-6 does a good job with AFM, unlike the fifth generation where you absolutely had to have it.

I stopped using mine, exchanged mine through Range for one with the newest FW, still throws CELs. I am used to the change between 4 and 8, I am OK with it. The damn A8 is the issue and drives me crazy some days and in certain situations.

My concern is the modulation of the transmission when changing from v4-v8-v4 and wanting to have just a straight v8 automatic.

There are delete kits...but then you get into the cams....and out of the warranty.

so you use the disabler and tune the code faults out? Or with the diablo you take the AFM out and you can tune also?

Just trying to understand....thx.

However a "Tune" voids your drive train warranty
