Ford To Debut Mid-Engine Mustang This Thursday

Apparently, according to Ford Authority,

Ford To Debut Mid-Engine Mustang This Thursday: Exclusive

https://fordauthority.com/2023/08/fo...day-exclusive/

Quote:

"As a matter of fact, this upcoming mid-engine Mustang has already been shown to a select group of individuals in Las Vegas, who got to see the vehicle yesterday, August 14th, 2023. The public reveal will occur this Thursday at a special event in Pebble Beach, California. Sources say the vehicle will be built by Multimatic and it will be a Mustang branded vehicle, but it does not utilize the S650 platform. Aside from the current crop of specialty Mustang products, Multimatic built the Ford GT and currently builds the Ford Bronco DR for The Blue Oval. It is currently not clear if this Mustang branded product is based on the GT, but our sources say the company essentially considers it to be a supercar."
Being built by Multimatic all but guarantees this will be an extremely small, extremely costly, production run, IF it's real. Mulitmatic was able to, on average produce 225 FGT's per year from 2016-2022.
This could end up being yet another member of the Mustang sub brand; a Pony car, a electric CUV, and now a Supercar. There was also a Mustang Raptor hinted at earlier this year, that I'm still not entirely convinced isn't an April Fool's joke that someone just forgot to post on the 1st.

Anyway, We'll see what happens on Thursday.

I think that we wouldn't have pony car anymore if Mustang really becomes MR model and goes to answer Corvette.

The FA article uses pictures of the last gen FGT, because Multimatic built them too. Hard to post images of a vehicle that hasn't been publicly revealed yet.

LMFAO! So you are telling me, and I will eat Crow, Ford is making a mid engine Mustang when everyone else is going EV?

I applaud them if they do, but seems kind of stupid at this point... unless they have been hiding the GT chassis for a Mustang variety all this time. Hell, even the Vette will be EV soon.

crysalis_01 08-15-2023 08:38 PM

Who knows? Well, FoMoCo and a few others do I guess. Perhaps it'll be a Coyote/hybrid setup. Ford has stated that they, like Toyota, are going down the hybrid route vs the full EV path others are taking. It'll be Multimatic, these guys are building the V8 Broncos, so they may just pull something crazy out of their hat, and charge out of the stratosphere for it too.

If America government would've exemption rule for combustion performance models like EU does, I don't see why not.

I could see GM make a Vette SUV that is electric.

I think they(GM) will keep the real Vette ICE/Hybrid.

Ford already has an Electric Stang:smiling1:

This one took me by surprise also.

Sounds to me like it's going to be a GT supercar replacement...with the name Mustang slapped on it somewhere.

It will not be built by Ford, and it will likely be very expensive lol....but hopefully not Half-Million-Dollar expensive.

Well, as it was likely bound to, it's apparently leaked early.

Doesn't look very mid-engineish, not to mention that it looks more like a Camaro...lol

What the heck is that tube/tubes sticking out of the rear hatch?

There is no way they are running the exhaust like that.

Possible. After all, they did consider making a Corvette station wagon in the 50s.

I think that's the rear wing supports.

I know it's a concept (maybe) but one word comes to mind. Ewww.

I'm sure some would want to buy it. But not me. Just looks too busy.

I doubt it also but maybe they consider their current loss of roughly TWO BILLION DOLLARS in the last 18 months pushing the EV lunacy more than a speed bump?
:twitch:

Not sur a mid engine car would make up for that but it's a step I guess.
