A10 or M6 for my situation

Okay, guys, I checked out some other older threads on here and I'm not looking to get any hate or spew any negativity. I am simply looking for some better-experienced folks input on my next purchase. This is purely aimed at myself and my situation.

So, my question is. I am in the market to purchase a used '17 ZL1 and been really back and forth for many weeks now on M6 or A10. I see many threads and videos explaining how good these A10's are and how they are the future sounds great.

My concerns for buying an M6 would be, I plan on daily driving my ZL1 (Yes, hate me if you will, but that's my situation). It seems the A10's are faster literally every time, from a dip, a roll whatever the situation is, seems the A10 wins every time. Another reason I'm starting to lean back towards the A10, keyless start. Would love to have this option. Now for the M6, I want to be in control of a car of this nature. The "cool and fun" aspect of driving a manual is just so intriguing. I've only owned one manual car and 2 autos before, so not the most experienced in manuals.

So, my main concern is I just don't know if it's worth giving up the extra .whatever seconds that I'll lose if I go with an M6 instead of A10. I do plan on racing/having some fun with it so that's a factor for me. Last big concern is reliability. I hear that M6's a that much more reliable because they have less moving parts, which in turn means less breaking parts.

If anyone can just chime in on what you think would be best for my situation, obviously there are a lot more positives I named off for the A10 but the fun factor in driving for me is HUGE. I love to drive and want to keep that smile as long as possible. Thank you, God bless. :happy0180:

I opted for the M6 for a couple of reasons. Like most, I grew up in the era where true sports cars were manuals. I personally feel it creates a more stimulating driving experience and adds a certain bond between man and machine. I fully understand that the new auto's are faster and far more advanced, though.

Secondly, I've never been to a drag strip and I will never track my car. My plans are spirited backroad driving, the occasional quick hit on the open road, and car shows with my two boys. The extra couple of tenths or whatever means noting to me in terms of competitive advantage.

IMHO, if you're seriously planning to race or whatnot on a regular basis, go with the A10 for the advantages it offers. I also would prefer the A10 for a daily driver. Aside from those two reasons, I would opt for the M6.

You need to "DRIVE" an A10 in track mode with all nannies off, before you make your decision.

Based on your comments, go with the auto. You really beed to be %100 sold on driving a manual car if it’s going to be your daily driver.

I would think that you need to buy an A10 auto also! I bought a M6 because I like to shift gears and be in control of the car and also because I’m old school when it comes to manual transmissions in Camaros. Ultimately though you will have to decide which one you prefer to own and like Smokin19 said drive both and see which one that makes your smile bigger!!

I've had both the A10 and manual.
Based on your comments you mention times, then a few track days and daily driving which all go toward A10.

But it seems you're concerned about missing that fun factor of the M6. I'm here to say this 10L90 transmission has a lot of cool stuff to keep you busy. It was also built for trucks and is super reliable. I will go back to an A10 the first chance I get.

...and welcome to the site. :smoking:

So much good insight just from a few short replies. Thank you guys so much, really appreciate it. Seems like my guesses were correct when people tend to sway me towards A10 for my situation. Just can't imaging getting board with a 70,000$ car haha.

I bought an M6 because I do serious track play and I live in a warm climate where I don’t really need remote start. I also live in a low traffic area where a manual is not a big deal to daily drive.

I would have gotten an A10 if I:

Lived in a high traffic location like Los Angeles.
Drag race.
Live in a place that has more cold months than warm months.

However, if I’ll add that the M6 in the ZL1 1LE is superior to the standard M6 due to gearing. So maybe you want to go that route... in the end, the choice is all yours.

Cheers

You'll love it either way, but based on your wants/needs, A10 all day. I've always preferred manual trans sports/muscle cars, until driving the A10. I have one of the first batch of A10s and it's still performing solid, so I wouldn't worry about reliability.

Title threw me at first......but I'm a manual kind of guy.....did have both A & M on my Hellcats...but then again none were daily drivers......

M6 here and wouldn't trade it for an A10 but I agree with everyone else...A10 sounds like the better choice for you given your situation and concerns. Good luck and I hope you find one you like.

Don't forget that you can "manually" shift the A10 too. While it's not the same as rowing the gears it does provide an outlet to rev the motor higher through the gears.

I'm a stick guy when it comes to driving a sports car. That's how I've always been and that's the way it was going to stay. When I kept hearing about the bog issues with the m6 on the Z it made up my mind to go ahead and get the Vette but I really liked the Camaro. So, I decided to give the A10 try and I haven't looked back.
The A10 is unlike any auto you've owned/driven before and you can have just as much fun with it.
Good luck with your choice............

For me:

* I test drove a A10 ZL1 Coupe, and I own an M6 ZL1 Vert.
* I've been manuals for most of my life, mostly BMW, and am just returning to manuals after a 3 year diversion to an A7 with a 2012 AMG C63.
* No question that the right answer for me is a M6.
* When testing an auto, say an E92 M3 dual clutch, or Camaro6 ZL1 A10, or AMG C63 A7, I tell myself "wow, this is interesting", and then after 10 mins, I'm like "but this is no manual", and would end up leaving it in auto the rest of the time.

For you:

* Try to drive both a Camaro6 A10 and M6.
* This is totally your decision.
* It's probably like the answer to the questions "Do you prefer red wine or white wine?", or "What's your favorite type of music?" Often the answer is "it depends". There's no wrong answer with the ZL1 - they are both really good - but to get the right answer for you, you just have to put on your big boy/big girl pants, and go with what your gut is telling you.
