Nitto 555RII
 

Have any of you ran or currently run Nitto 555R2s on your ZL1 assuming in a 305 size? How well do they hook from a dig and slow rolls? How long do they last you on average? How are they in the wet? Are they stable at high speeds from 100-150 mph?

I have a set on the back of my Hellcat, 315 though. They hook as good as any tire you're going to find other than a Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radial. I can't say how long they last yet because mine are still in good condition after 1K miles. They are just so-so in the wet but all drag radials are like that. No issues with stability at high speeds.

So far for me the 555r 1 hooks better then the 555r2 from a dig. From a roll 555r2 does great. My guess it's due to the stiffer sidewall so they need less air pressure(going to try a dig at 21psi this weekend). 555r2 is very stable and smooth at high speeds. Not sure on treadwear yet, I have only had the R2 for a week. However the 555r1 I got 7k miles out of with lots of light burnouts and launches...the R2 has a bit more tread depth so it should last longer. Overall a great tire that might be the best balance of street tire stability with drag radial grip.

We have some customers that really like them for street driving. Great in the rain for a drag radial. I'm not sure the verdict is out on them long term yet.

What are you all running on the front,

Any good tire that will channel water is advised if you're driving on the street regularly. On my Hellcat, I'm using Michelin Pilot Super Sport's on the front.

555 G2. I just put these on when I did the 555 R2 in the rear. Much better then the stock run flats. Probably not as good as the Michelin PSS but good for the money.

I like my 305 35 19 555r2s, they hook great on my C7. Went to the track last night and made 3 passes and they were all 1.63 60ft times with very short burn outs. I also drove them 330 miles round trip to the track and got caught in the rain for about 20 miles and they drove just like my old 555G2s..

I am thinking the same on front and rears Nitto recamends the same G2 front and R2 rear ordered them today.

LOL, of course Nitto recommends you run their G2 on the front to match the R2 on the rear. They're in the business of selling tires. That being said, I've heard the G2s are decent street tires for a mid range priced tire.

I have a buddy who has a hellcat, he’s lookin to put a set of 20x10.5 wheels on the rears to fit a 305 555R2. He was originally gunna go with a 20x11 inch so he could try a 315 NTO5r too but he’s concerned a 315 size tire might rub and cause issues on his Challenger along with the 11 inch wheel probably being too wide and causing fitment and other issues as well. Any advice you recommend for him? You think a 20x10.5 inch wheel in the rear is the best all around way to go? Could you still fit a 315 NTO5r on 20x10.5s without issues, or is it better to stick with 305 size radials like the other Nittos, Toyos, and Mickeys on a 10.5 instead of going with the 20x11?

I may have heard of the original 555r hooking better from maybe 1 or two people but also quite a few folks have mentioned the R2 was better. However I do like that the R2 have a higher speed rating than the original which is a plus. How low of a roll do those R2’s hook nicely? If you do lower the air pressure on them and do a dig mind letting me know how they performed?

Those that mentioned about having the 555 G2s up front how well do they corner? Do they grip the road well enough to help stop the vehicle pretty good? Are they worth pairing them up front with the Nitto radials on the back or is a stock all season tire up front preferred with the radials in the back?

I thought all tire manufacture was in that business of selling tires maybe I wrong on that.
