Thanks to the used car market madness...
I theoretically “made” money on my 1SS!
I thought I paid 30,500 (-TTL), but in cleaning out some stuff I found the dealer packet & sale price was actual $27,490 ($29,206 w/ TTL) drove it for 2yrs & 8k miles & then got $30K for trade in, $31,650 with tax savings. Of course I know my Z was probably more than it would have been prior to all the craziness, but that’s not the point (kinda). Also not counting the grand in tires or Borla exhaust I put on it before trading it. I know, I know, who cares, but I’m still surprised about it. Plus I’m bored. It’s like 10* outside & the wife has me cutting up documents while she cleans out droors. Anyone else make out better on their last Camaro? |
Wow that's incredible, especially with trading it in!
I have to thank the used car market madness for pushing me to get a brand new one for not much more than used haha. |
I traded just at the start of the Pandemic last March, I did great on the the new car lost on the trade. But wanted out of the trade. It is what it is.
Paid 42K for my 2SS Vert but lost a few K on the trade. I was happy. |
Out of curiosity, did you pay $42 OTD for a 2SS vert? in 2016 I paid $45k OTD for a loaded 2SS vert, and really regret selling the car. It was an M6, which is hard to find. Used market is very thin on that configuration right now.

I bought mine a few months before everything locked down and noticed similar cars going for $3-4k more than I paid. Was very happy I bought when I did. My trade in was about what I bought the car for, so I briefly considered trading it in, but then I remembered I had just spend almost $3k in a couple sets of tires for it, and decided that wasn't in my best interest.

Only options are the 50,515 sticker (including destination and options) 995 NPP 300 Black 20" Wheels 225 Black Lugs (insane!!!!) So it is a stripper 2SS, so to speak. |
Its nuts out there right now. Was going to buy a lightly used 2SS car, but the used ones were only 2-3k less that I could buy new. So I bought new, no question.
I sold my last ZL1 before everything went nuts, figured I could have easily sold it for 4-5K more now than I did then, looking at the current market. Oh, well timing is everything. |
I bought my Blue 2018 1SS 1LE with 19k miles in August of 2019 for 36k out the door. I sold it with 22k miles for 35k in September 2020 to a private party (net loss of $1k for about a year of ownership and 3k miles).
Bought my 17 ZL1 with 5k miles for 56k out the door. I was originally looking at ZL1's before I bought the SS, they were going for about 50k (20k + miles) to 55k (less than 10k miles) in 2019. I dont think ZL1 prices have really changed much but SS values have skyrocketed over the last year. |

Not far from my house there are smaller dealerships with a bunch of high priced used challengers, it they’re not moving.

I would like to think the Z market hasn’t moved much since I bought the SS. There were very few examples out there used at the time as they were just released in ‘17. Not much time on the market. In the 2 or so months looking prior to purchasing I saw prices go up a tad, but not by much. It seemed that the year/ mileage really made more of a difference in what they were asking. I saw several in the mid-upper-50K range ‘18 or older. In the end I didn’t want the same year even though I wanted the Yellow again. Had to give that up to go newer. |
I paid just under 24K from the dealer for my 2016 2SS a year and a half ago. KBB says it is worth about 27K now. Too bad I blew that difference on wheels and other fancy parts!!
Not sure if the dealer gave me a deal because I had bought a Silverado LTZ a few weeks before that I got kind of hosed on :bonk: |
No good here in kali. End of year trade when used values are going down. 2012 2ss fully modded with 67000 miles. Great condition, passes smog, except bad ac. New tires even. What did I get? $15000 right in the middle of the kbb stock car range. Oh well, new car got employee discount if $3800 off. Is what it is
