vs 2018 Mustang

Based on what we know now, what does everyone think. Despite the controversy over the front end, the next Mustang looks to be an improved car. There are still a lot of questions.

Anyone?

There's not enough information out there.

Wait until the power figures are released and what packages contain before making even basic guesses.

Does the new Mustang solve the seemingly unsolvable drivetrain vibration issues? That's the upgrade most would like to see.

Maybe Camaros will start selling more now since the facelift on the Mustang is a downgrade lol

There is no VS here. Camaro is at least 2 notches above the Mustang in every trim level. Nothing to see here.

What we know:

- HP and TQ increase (I'm going to assume at least 455 HP and 420 - 430 TQ)
- 10 speed auto (those that want auto, or drag will care)
- Regular GT gets current PP suspension. New PP will have even further track focused suspension.
- Almost guaranteed no weight loss.

The only thing we know for sure is that its going to be faster than it is now in a straight line and in handling. SS should still have a low end TQ advantage.

I'm expecting a GTPP to be damn near an equal to the SS in both of the above areas. If it surpasses the SS in straight line performance I will be a bit surprised. As for handling...it depends. The current GTPP is still not quite the handler as the SS is, so we know it won't be an equal, so will the "new" GTPP take handling up a notch to match the Camaro, or will they go further...a bit more like 1LE and attempt to surpass the regular SS?

I don't think the new GTPP will match the 1LE in both handling and "trackability" (cooling/braking/so on). If so....why in the world would anyone want a GT350 any more, other than for the engine. Not worth it.

I thankfully got one that doesn't do that, but I personally know two owners having this very issue. They both even had diffs replaced, one had the whole IRS assembly replaced, still vibrates a lot at certain speeds. The dealer has one more thing to try and then he is lemon lawing it...he's understandably upset.

Ford is saying it is faster than the 2012-2013 Boss 302. That's a start. I don't think horsepower numbers matter. It's actual performance that counts. The current Mustang lags the Camaro SS by more than 20 hp and 100 lbs would suggest.

Besides, speculating about the next Mustang is irresistible.

The PP suspension has been criticized in several long term tests to be too stiff for a DD. The base suspension wallows. It will be a better Mustang, but I doubt Gen 6 SS owners will have a case of envy.

It will now have options that only the Camaro had. Magride with PP package and active exhaust. Will also have MPSS tires.

10sp auto will be a nice addition to the GT. I kinda like facelift too.

khell86 01-17-2017 05:32 PM

Also the fact that the PP now comes on the Auto. We can now have actual Auto vs Auto comparisons and whatnot.

I guess we'll finally get to see which chassis is better now. They should be about equal in power, tire, and suspension. It'll come down to suspension tuning and maybe the aggressive gearing the mustang is known for.

The Mustang S550 chassis is a step below the Camaros Alpha. Hence why a SS 1LE can easily match a GT350. Just imagine what a new Z/28 will do to the GT350R...

Not really. They said the same thing about the '15 GT PP, we all know how that turned out lol...
