I don't get why an SS Camaro would be included in "The World's Greatest Drag Race". A Z06 or ZL1 would be better suited to that I would think.

Somehow felt the Camaro didn't belong in that race.

Yeah, the race is fun to watch, but makes no sense given what the 1LE is purposed to do and the price point it's sitting in. I think it's actually the cheapest car on the field by 18k? With the 350R being the next closest in price (and still not a drag racer either).

Will need to see again with the ZL1 for the Camaro

Last, but did you see what it ran against lol...supercar city.

Cool thing is, even with that crap launch, on a terrible service it still ran the same time as Motor Trends lighter 1SS they tested on an actual drag strip. So I see these cars running 12.2's with a better surface...or better.

More and better rubber and maybe the eLSD helping some? (though don't know how much it assists in wheel spin on takeoff) I'd like to see the front and rear wheel/tire weighed against the 1SS and 1SS 1LE to see what was gained/lost in rotating mass.

They just always do it with contenders for best drivers car, it's more for fun factor than anything!

Well the SS 1LE weight is about 50 pounds more than a 1SS, so I am thinking it's the wider, stickier, non run flat rubber. The eLSD is more so for pulling out of a corner/turn so I don't really see that helping off the line movement really.

Guess I was thinking about more managed and smarter control over wheel spin/slippage outside of just multi channel brakes and throttle.

The worlds greatest drag race is all the cars from Best Drivers Car. The 1LE was in BDC, so it's part of the race.

Looked like a shitty launch to me.

It's a track car, not a drag car. This is more of a tradition and for fun anyways.

Haha, the Camaro looked pretty pathetic in this contest.

There is no need to come up with excuses. It is what it is. Just keep in mind what all the other cars in this competiton are.

No excuses or rationalization necessary - that was a badass video, and it's awesome that the Camaro SS 1LE took part, at all.

In other news..........the ZL1 would have been neck and neck with that Merc GT-S.....Wow. Can't wait to see next year's comparison. :thumbup:

Wow, stiff competition but isn't every car on there over 100k except for the GT350R?

The SS 1LE held it's own with a 12.4.. But it's a track car, take it to the track and let's see how it does with the same competition.

I know if the ZL1 was around, MT would have def. used it. Most M6 Camaro SS have tested to 12.3-12.4 so I could probably see the 1LE being the same or perhaps 12.2 with a good launch.

You will still be the cheapest in the group after a S/C install and finish that race in the top half.

Most of those cars are track cars.

Wow that shot at the end of the 1LE drifting around the other cars was just beautiful!!!

The sweet sounds of revving and acceleration, I love the distinct differences in engine noises.

They should make a quiz window you can click on to match the car with the exhaust note.

Yep they made it a point at the end to emphasize the competition it was up against.. And then showing the 1LE drifting around the others was a nice touch.

For the prices of most of the others...
...I could have a 1LE and a ZL1...

Yeah, on a unprepared surface, with what looked to be a clutch drop burnout...this car has an easy 12.2 in it with those tires I think (maybe a little help from the eLSD too).

ITT a lot of people who dont follow/understand motor trend. lol.

The drag race was fun to watch. All those cars are so awesome. I may be on the verge of fanboying over the Gen 6 1LE though. Shhhh....don't tell anyone.:nod:

Although MT loves the SS 1LE, the car didn't do too well against the stiff competition. I'm sure the ZL1 would do much better.

Considering the fire power and $$$ that's in that race, comparatively that's a highly respectable number.

Still current don't ya think? They haven't made any changes that I'm aware of for 2018. Only thing they'll change now is to use a ZL1 instead.

Yup, still valid. Nothing new since then for the SS 1LE at least.

On the Car & Driver side the Mc Laren 720 won their COTY recently. It runs A 9.9 second quarter 1/4 mile! 148 mph at the end of the 1/4. Almost unbelievable.

Still impressed with Godzilla. After all these years, still hanging. I was looking at getting another GTR before I bought my Zl1.

They have a greatest drag race 7 now!

Why in this world would they even run that 1le against this killer competition. Maybe a z06? WTF?
