RWHP Limit for street tires?

Just wandering what the max RWHP would be for street tires before they would be useless? I run Nitto NT555 G2's 305/30-20

I don't know but thinking about 550 rwhp which I had when I first put my Maggie 2300 on and all street tires are useless and that's why my Camaro makes 850 rwhp and I just drag race it 99% of the time. This car will spin my G2's at 120 mph on the street so they are useless and besides that its a little scary so most guys with this kinda of hp run a much sticker tire like a drag radial on the street.

That is going to depend on the driver, street, programming, tires. I drive all over with mt drag radials and have pretty decent control up to 800-900hp on the street. I start in 2nd, ramp the power up based on speed, make sure the car is strait before nailing it. I don’t see full power till 80mph or so.

Before I broke the motor I was starting to play with aftermarket traction control and it worked pretty well. It kept you strait when you did happen to ask for too much power.

I have seen people complain of loosing control at 500hp.

It's an overly broad question (what is "useless", for example?), but here is another data point, I have 560 rwhp with Michelin PS4S tires, and the car cannot be hard launched in 1st on any surface in any temperature, I have to ease into the throttle, and conditions have to be very good to hook up even in 2nd. Of course me being a shitty driver is always a possibility, but this power level already seems a bit much for RWD and "normal" tires.

The next logical step is street drag radials such as the Nitto NT555R or the Toyo R888R that are technically still "street" (DOT approved) tires, but they already mean non-trivial compromises for street driving in terms of noise, wet traction, tire wear...

Thanks for the input guys. A lot to think about now.

I'm in the low 700's on zl1 305 Goodyears. While i certainly cannot hard launch on the street,or strip either for that matter, the car is still very controllable on the street. I can keep it straight while no lift shifting into 2nd and 3rd but would not risk it with another car in the next lane. The 275 oem runflats are definitely unusable at this level

Not sure if it was already mentioned but the type of Supercharger may play a role in it too. Those running a Whipple, Magnuson, etc type Positive displacement blower are going to have way more torque down low than someone with a Procharger or ECS Centrifugal.

Personally I had the G2555's and they were useless at 560 rwhp. I switched those out to the Nitto NT05's and they were way better.

NT05 front and back, or did you have NT05R's in the rear?

Street tires are useless on a 470whp bolt-on car.

So little context was provided OP. I assume you are referring to performance on track. If so, most street tires are useless on big HP.

It would be street driving only. Those drag tires aren't cheap. Plus the cost of an SC. Starting to wonder if paying close to 10k for everything is worth the few seconds of upgraded hp on the street due to constantly worrying about getting tickets. 0-100 comes really fast with that much hp. I'll just need to take my time and think about it. I appreciate all the input

I kept the Nitto G2 555's for the front and went with the non-R version of the NT05's in the rear. Much better until I went up on the power

A good radar detector is your friend.

Can't speak for others, but the Maggie was totally worth it for me, what with the difficulty of launching. Actually this one is on me, I didn't listen to the advice people offered about drag radials. The car is a different beast with a supercharger and +160 rwhp, and there is still plenty of room for more. Only problem is it's an "endless money pit", although not the way good old Scotty usually means :D
