1.7 vs 2.3
Wondering if anyone knows the weight difference between stock 1.7 and magnuson 2.3? I'm thinking about going with ported 1.7 or 2.3 heartbeat, still not sure which. Power goal is 650-680whp
Thanks for any info |
I have both of them. I didn’t weigh them.
My take is that 650-700whp is easily achievable with either. However, it will depend on your objectives. The 1.7 will clearly generate much more heat and so performance won’t be the same. Additionally, if you do want to bump it up closer to 800whp, the 2.3 gets you there easily...can’t do that with the 1.7. As far as weight goes, I would expect they are pretty close to the same. |
Thanks for the info, would like to keep the stock pulley size.
Hoping by porting with a big gulp and 103 tb It will help alleviate the heat issues. As well as possibly adding some e content but not 100% on that. Parts I'm going with are: Big gulp rf intake Ca performance cat delete 103mm Tb Ported 1.7 blower and snout or 2.3 heartbeat Possibly ati or innovators west dampner to lighten rotating mass but stick with stock pulley size Possibly flex fuel kit Most likely go with jms voltage booster Hp tuners and remote tune Think that's about it |
I would recommend calling a tuner like Ted Jannetty and talking through what you want to do and get his advice. He knows both setups and will make sure you have everything. I am running his rough idle cam in my Camaro and have his smooth idle cam waiting to be installed on the Vette.
Unfortunately we just got a bunch of snow when Inwas scheduled to get the car in for install. |
The 1.74 supercharger continues to be improved upon as the years go by. However, there’s no denying that the 2.3 or larger supercharger is just simply more efficient. Don’t fret too much about the numbers, worry about how you’re getting there. The 1.74 has been stretched to over 800whp but the 2.3 will reach that number easier; with the 2.65 even easier than the 2.3.
For me, I’m very likely going to stick to the 1.74. While it came stock on this car, I was eyeballing it like crazy when I had my Camaro. Now that I own a car with one, I realize that it’s absolutely plenty for me so long as my goal is ~750whp or less. |
Right on, appreciate the input guys and yes i will definitely be talking to Ted soon. Really looking to just make the car more efficient with the 1.7. That way I'm not upsetting the balance of the car and lighten the front possibly in the process. Not looking to go overboard but then again this car is kinda overboard haha

If I bought a ZL1 or Z06 I would probably stick with that blower, port it, and do some cooling mods. If I am starting from scratch, I would get a bigger PD unit. 2300 or larger unless you find a really good deal on a 1.74.

For your goal in your OP I would push you to the Heartbeat in a Heartbeat LOL Ted. |
Thanks Ted, i was starting to think the same thing. Then I dont have to really go flex fuel, which makes it easier for me. Just add the blower, open up the airflow with the other mods and it should put me right where I want to be. Looking forward to the black friday deals

For some reason I totally agree with Ted.

I like my 2.3, too , and even though my setup is nowhere near yours, it's still much better hardware than the driver I am, heh. |

Arpad, what hp are you at with your setup if you dont mind me asking?

I was just agreeing with Ted since it was a comparison of the 1.7-2.3. Yes the 2650 would be the best option. Wicked blower
