$2,000 question

Someone gives you $2,000 and says do what you want to your vehicle. What mods do you buy?

Exhaust.

Flex fuel sensor (from skid mark garage): 200
Headers(TSP headers with off road connection pipes from juiced motorsports with camaro6 xoupon): $565
Tune and porting of factory intake and throttle body from Pray: $1,025

That leave you at 1790.... I would try to squeeze out another $100 for a CAI, but that would be the first thing I would skimp on, on the bolt on list, as it generally wont require a retune (well... after an underdrive pulley that is)

What ever 2K will let me get without going over that amount.

Pay down the principal balance.

KingLT1 09-09-2018 04:35 PM

Roto Fab
Ca cat deletes
Flex Sensor
Pray ported IM/TB
Pray Tune

Headers/Exhaust would be the last mods I would do on a 2k budget. This setup above will get you into the stock ZL1/Hell Cat territory.

....uhhh what?

Last I checked ZL1 dynos about 550whp ... those mods with E85 might net you like... 460-470...

Did I miss something or are you talking about ET or??

For the record, I 100% agree with the mods you suggested (especially with cat deletes over headers if on a budget), but don't agree that it'll put you in contention with a ZL1

Maybe he meant in terms of ET? Seems like some good bolt-ons gets a mostly stock SS into the 10’s from what I’m seeing on this board.

Buy track day tickets and a set of tires

ZL1's are a lot heavier then a SS. Dyno numbers don't mean everything. Im talking about at the track or on the street where it counts. Pray has A8 bolt-on cars running faster then stock HellCats and Zl1's. I pulled on a HC Charger from a roll...have proof too.

According to the fast list, only 4 people have done that feat.... out of how many bolt on cars?

So how many need to do it to say it can be done? KingLT1 was making the point that for $2K you could be competitive with the bolt ons he listed, and it’s certainly a fair point.

Silly question: what mechanics can perform these modifications? How do you find them?

Not saying it cant be, I just wouldn't call it the norm. If I had to put a numerical value on it, I would say 15. Since the list is 30 people long and if over half could do it, I would consider it "the norm"

If only 4 people in the country have done it, well I would say it isnt as simple as throw the parts on, hit up the track, and your first pass will be a 10.xx

Most of them are very DIY... even if you dont have a garage or driveway. Headers can be tricky, but as long as you have some general tools, and can jack the car up, you can do them.
