2019+ Steering Wheel in a 2016-2018

Curious if someone’s done it.

I’m looking at a 2020 steering wheel with the heated option, I know Gen5DIY has their harness that’ll let that work but I just noticed that they added a button for what I believe is related to the forward collision alert system.

My guess would be that the button would be nonfunctional, but in the case it isn’t and someone’s done it before it would be nice to know

First is 2016, second is 2019. Button in question is top left near heated button

Which button are you saying is "new"?

And, why do you want to swap to the newer wheel? (curious)

there are two buttons in the center area next to the air bag hole. Those aren't on older model steering wheels.

I'm assuming the new wheel is heated and that's why he wants it.

No idea where you're describing. Just looked at the wheel on my 2020 to be sure that I wasn't missing something, and it's exactly like the 2019 with nothing hidden "behind" that you can't see.

The upper left-most "button" isn't actually button (not on mine at least, and I have a 2SS M6). It's fixed and doesn't move and that's the one right next to the heated wheel power control that he described...

I have a 2SS 1LE. Don’t like or want the suede leather steering wheel or shift knob/boot.

I had the dealer order normal leather wrapped for both. The wheel came for an auto with shift paddles and the shift knob came suede(description was apparently just leather wrapped)

I’m being charged restocking fee which is upsetting since I did not tell them what part to order.

The parts department is claiming it’s very difficult to determine how to determine the parts I want. So they are hesitant to try again and get the wrong part.

Any suggestions on how to determine the correct part numbers.

I want normal leather steering wheel, shift knob, boot for a 2020 2SS M6

I'd delete this post and start your own thread. Your question is very different from how this post is titled and you'll get more responses to a uniquely titled thread for your specific question.

The button you described which isn’t really a button is the one I meant, if it’s not a button then I think I should be good with the swap, wonder why they changed it then.

My current wheel is pretty beat up, I got the car at 61k miles and it’s now 86k miles. The leathers been scratched and ripped at places. I test drove a 2020 and the wheel on that felt way different, idk if they changed the leather or if it’s just new. The heated is a nice to have and it’s actually one of the cheapest on car-part I could find at around $100 lol

My steering wheel is the same as the first pic since mine is a 2SS 1LE but without FCW(since I have PDR).

If you use this configuration(2SS 1LE w/PDR), you should have one that's the same in the first pic.

Here's a better quality/close up of the piece that they changed with the 2019 if you have the forward collision warning, the next photo is what the 2016-2018 looked like without forward collision warning. Both have heated steering wheel, last is essentially my current wheel without either option.

As mentioned... That isn't a "button". It also has nothing to do with the Forward Collision Alert. It's the power indicator that tells you whether the heated steering wheel is powered on or not. :)

I agree with you. If you get the 2020 wheel and the heated wheel harness from Gen5DIY, the FCA on the 2020 wheel will be dormant.

I wonder if the 2020 wheel heater on/off button illuminates instead of the light being where the FCA is located?

I believe I've found something to further my own confusion.

Seems like all the cars on Cars.com that are 2019+ 2SS Convertibles with heated steering wheels have this old style that everyone usually has. While the Coupes for these years have this new style?

First photo = 2019+ Convertible 2SS with heated steering
Second photo = 2019+ Coupe 2SS with heated steering

The Coupe photo is a suede wheel but still stands that the others I saw are the same
