355 HP V6 in 2019 Camaro ???

Todd from Chevrolet performance stated in a video from Carlisle that the 2019 Camaro will have a 355 HP V6. Curious if that is accurate as that's a 20 HP increase. Apparently the V8 stays at 455 HP.....

That will make the V6 pretty dang formiddable. Even currently its nothing to sneeze at but if it is true it will definitely make people think twice between the two models... the average vehicle today only has about half that much.

The V8 probably can't go much higher in power without becoming dangerous to insurers however for the average consumer.

I noticed that too. Here is the video where he says it,

Wrong! The Chevrolet pressroom site states the specs of the 2019 LGX at 335hp/284tq just like last year. Just another dealership employee drone trying to drum up more sales for the '19MY.

Maybe he just misspoke as he tried to rattle off a list of new features.

I'm pretty sure that is what happened. That was my first impression when I originally saw the video also....

If the V6 gets 355 then the V8 get 475.

Would be much more effective to boost the Tq up by 20 than HP. Thats the V6 weakness.

Not really. To increase torque by that much, it would need either F.I. or a longer stroke upgrade to the rotating assembly. Two things of which would be highly unlikely due to cost.

The 3.6 needs to be driven in higher RPMs to really enjoy it. I've driven one spiritedly. If you drive it like a regular car or are expecting performance like the LT1 with power down low, no way. But, if you let it rip to 5k in each gear, it's pretty quick. Faster than any 4th gen F-body with the old LS1 350.

I LIKE THE LTG OVER THE V6, NOW IF GM WOULD HANG A PAIR OF TURBOCHARGERS ON IT YOU WOULD HAVE SOMETHING. EPA GAS MILAGE CRAP I THINK HAS A LOT TO DO TO WITH THE DECISIONS BY GM.

The V6 is a fantastic engine with a very flat TQ curve, just like you want it to be. Looking at any decent dyno run shows this. I agree its happiest when revved, but it actually pulls well on the low and mid also if you ask me.

I had a tuned and TB ported 5th gen V6, and the response down low was pretty good all things considered.

You can pull that much extra TQ out of it with a tune and bolt ons, but of course none of that would fly on a production engine that has to pass extremely strict quality/reliability/efficiency goals.

The Camaro order guide says 335hp for the V6. I think he just misspoke
