Rattles! AAARRRGG

Let me start by saying that I love this car. Fast, fun, comfortable, and refined.

2LT RS V6 manual trans

I have a couple rattles that have developed and are bothering the hell out of me.

The most annoying is the door panel rattle. Even at low volumes there is a rattle caused by the woofers (bose system). Pressing firmly on the knee bolster or arm rest stops the rattle. But, of course it's impossible to drive that way.

The 2nd rattle is an odd one. In 3rd gear under moderate to full throttle there is a pronounced rattle from the stick shift. It doesn't sound like the stick itself but applying gentle pressure forward on the stick eliminates the rattle.

Does anyone else have these same rattles? Have you tried to fix them? I'd rather not have the dealer fix these small problems as I don't trust them not to damage something in the interior when tearing into the car. I'll probably try to find my trim tools and try to fix them myself.

I have the same vibration rattle in my drivers door. It makes me hardly even want to listen to music it's so annoying. When my car goes in to get the rear diff replaced I will have them fix it.

I have the rattle on the driver door. It sounds like it was coming from the power window adjuster knob. My wonderful dealership's solution was to adjust the stereo settings and turn down the bass, which hasn't solved the problem.

Sorry to bring up a somewhat old thread, but I am having the same rattle come from my shifter. It's most noticeable in the range of 2-3k RPM, in 2nd and 4th gear; although, it can be heard at times in other gears and outside that rev range, but never in neutral. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealership to have it looked at; I will report back what they find!

Found a possible bulletin on the shifter rattle.

Rattle Noise from Manual Transmission Shifter - (Mar 15, 2016)

Condition:
Some customers may comment that the shifter knob is rattling.
Cause:
This condition may be caused by a loose shifter knob retaining screw.
Correction:
If the shifter knob retaining screw is found to be the cause, the fastener needs to be torqued to proper specifications.

Using a flat-bladed trim tool, detach the transmission control lever boot from the console.
 2. Lift the transmission control lever boot to access the shift knob fastener
 3. Remove the fastener.
 4. Apply thread locker, GM P/N 12345382 (In Canada, use 10953489), to the shift knob fastener and install.
Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 7 Y (62 lb in).
 5. Install the transmission control lever boot  to the console.

Dont know if this is what your hearing, but thought id at least mention it.

Thank you much! This service bulletin made my trip to the dealership very smooth.

It wound up being exactly what the service bulletin stated. It's an issue with the knob of the shifter, and upon them performing the fix outlined in the bulletin, the rattling has stopped. The bulletin was viewable to the service advisor at the dealership, as well. It's much more peaceful now driving without hearing that rattle!

Any updates on the driver door rattle?

BlueCamaro6 11-22-2016 02:55 PM

Dealer blamed door rattle on "high bass level" but you can hear it at low volume. So that's clearly BS. I did find if I put my finger on the little oval vent looking piece on the door it goes away. I haven't looked into it any further than that as I have other issues with the rear diff I'm dealing with.

vaspen 11-23-2016 12:38 PM

there is a service bulletin for the issue I had mine in for it they use some typ of Velcro tape took a lot of the rattle out but not completely gone

so take your car in and ask about it

Sounds like the driver door rattle is a common thing that has bit me too. Now I have to take mine in too.
