AFM ?

My car, 2019 SS has AFM which I understand will switch the engine to run on 4 cylinders at light loads and I'm sure there are numerous criteria for this to happen.

I really don't mind, as this car gets very good fuel mileage for a car this much fun to drive.

The part I don't like is the constant switching between V8 and V4 mode in town. It's just to much and can be felt and heard.

Can this switch be stopped somehow in town at low speeds?

It would be nice if the switch would be inhibited till maybe 40MPH???

Comments please.

BTW, I know it can be shut off completely as a friend has his tuner do that to his gen5 SS. But I don't want it disabled completely.

Range device.

I have no idea what that is.

Short of tuning it off or changing the parameters of how it comes on/off the Range device is the only other way to defeat AFM. You can put the car in Sport mode or Manual mode, I think both of those modes keep it from working.

The AFM works in all modes on my car.

The range device shuts it off all the time. Not what I want.

I think the AFM implementation in our cars only has a global master switch that enables or disables it, and modes are at a different (higher) level than where this toggle is.

This is what I see in the tune and apparently the Range device also works the same way.

If I remember correctly I would run almost always in sport mode while manually shifting gears at 2500-3000 rpm and it kept the AFM valves open. Thus, once you're out of town bump the shifter over and it should kick back in. I have since had it tuned out and am very, very happy not hearing it, and gladly pay more in fuel. lol

I think you can adjust the parameter here.

overdriv 08-21-2019 10:05 AM

That looks promising.
But I suppose it would void my warranty.

If you care the warranty, try Trifecta tune.

I wouldn’t. No control over your own car. Plus, they (Trifecta) tried to tell me that zeroing the TCC Desired Slip tables would ruin my transmission. Absolutely hilarious. :smiling1:
