Any experience with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500?

Tirerack has a "new" tire for our cars (fits the staggered setup on the SS): the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. Their reviews look quite promising, especially considering the price.

Does anyone have any experience with these yet?

There's a video review on their site...

Seems it edges out the pretty awesome Sport Comp-2 from BFGoodrich.

But I'm not a big fan of Firestone tires.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of Firestone tires either... but their review is making me reconsider. It's been 15 years since I've run anything by Firestone, and a lot has changed in the world of tires in 15 years.

I bought a set.... haven't mounted them yet. This is a tire that nips at the heels of high priced tires for 2/3rds the price.
I bought them based on info from the web, they are/were previously known as a potenza re003 across the pond.
Nothing to sneeze at. The Potenza is good.

If it's any consolation it's a rebranded Potenza R003 since Dunlop owns Firestone now. Potenzas have always been pinnacle of tire performance.

I think you mean Bridgestone owns Firestone. As of last year that was the case.

I think I may be buying a set this weekend for my 5th gen SS. I had the old Wide Oval Indy 500's on my Z28 and they were great tires. Very smooth and quiet. For the performance and price, these new Firehawks may be one of the best bang for the buck tires out there.

Those Potenza RE-11's are cleaning house at the auto-crosses, and I see a lot of them at the track... but they don't make anything in a 20". I'm thinking these might be the closest thing we can get (at a reasonable price).

I might be able to run my original Goodyears until it's time to put on the snow shoes, so I'm not sure if I'll be buying this fall, or in spring.

Considering they are half the price and similarly rated as the competition the worst thing that could happen is you don't like the tires but saved a shit ton of money... still a win. I was going to buy the pilots when my stock tires are worn out, but I'm going to try these instead.

Anyone try these out yet and have any feedback?

Probably in the next couple months. Holding out on changing my tires til warmer weather hits. I have 17.6k on the stock ones and while they have lost grip they are still at 4/32....hanging in there lol. I figure if the indys are as good new as these worn tires they will be a good economical replacement.

I just ordered some up so will hopefully have them mounted next week.

Be sure to post your thoughts guys. If you can get a feel for the weight difference please post up!

These will be my next tires but once I take my winter tires off I'll likely run my stock goodyears for the summer just to make full use of them and have more money to throw at 1LE reps with square indy 500s.

avalonandl 02-10-2017 03:45 PM

Summer only tires.
