Blown Motor - Looking for opinions
Happy Memorial Weekend everyone!
Well, looks like I need a new engine., oil pump failure at the track. I have 22,000 hard miles mostly track miles on the car, so not too bummed about it. Looking for the forum’s wisdom and opinion on what the replacement engine should be. As mentioned, 98% track car, no drag. Thoughts on a good aftermarket engine package? I would like to keep my stock – ported blower set-up with stock pulleys. I has a 10% lower installed but feel like it generates too much heat during 25 – 30 minute track sessions. My second hot lap is always the best in teams of traps speeds. Leaning toward going back to stock pulley size this time around. So far, I’m leaning toward a TSP 416 - 427 CID 4.00" Stroke Sleeved Gen 5 LT1/LT4 Long-Block because they can get it delivered in 3 weeks. Open to suggestions. Stay safe everyone |

LME has a 376 lt4 making 600 with no blower, think its about 14k. Not sure what you're looking to spend but if you're interested, I have a guy I can direct you to who does great work and is very meticulous. He can help set you up

I wouldn’t do a 416, additional stroke does nothing for you. And I wouldn’t do a big bore 427 on a stock blower.
Given your use and setup, I’d just do a 377 long block from LME. |
#7 Spark plug was smashed, I'm fairly certain the head thread is ruined when I unscrewed the plug.

It would be interesting to know just how much massaging (money) would have to go into making the new Z06 engine bolt in.

Curious what was the outcome from, and what was done to prevent recurrence from April (the last plug failure)? https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=603984 |
I feel your pain. We ran too much ethanol and ran a couple of cylinders too lean and...not good. Happened the first part of dec and just started working on it a few weeks ago.
Look like $15k+ to get it going again, with a 38% Cam, new injectors and porting the sc and keeping the stock size pulley with the 19% lower. We do road race and 1/2 mile roll racing. Didn't need to build a monster but wanted to not have to do it twice. Looking at retirement in the next year and these expensive hobbies are gonna hafta be cut back. Luckily my son sold the vette I sold him and will participate with the car and the costs or I may have just parted it out. If you're mainly road racing I'd go back close to stock with some upgraded cooling. |
