Nightmare discovery my car is spying on me and I can't stop it
1 Attachment(s)
After some hefty increases in my insurance premiums and being turned down by Hagerty for insurance on a classic car I own, I requestd a report from LexisNexis which is used by insurance companies. To my complete shock my 23 Camaro ZL1 has been sending reports to them every time I drive it. I never authorized this and have been on the phone all day with OnStar and tech support at the My Chevrolet app. OnStar repeatedly denied any involvement in sending the data and tech support for the My Chevrolet app confirmed that I have never created an account for this vehicle. The dealer has no idea why this happened. I've been on the phone all day and still no answers. Not sure what to do next, no one wants to claim responsibility or help me find out how this happened and how to stop it.

I think we’re all going to want to know the answer to this soon.

Damn, did you ever plug anything into your OBD2 port? I've heard of insurance companies passing those data recorders to (gauge safe driving). That's pretty crazy and not nearly enough Hard Acceleration events in my opinion. Good luck getting to the bottom of this issue.

Tell them you want to opt out of "smart driver". I had the same problem, sales person setup the car for me and I didn't know anything about it until someone on this forum complained about it. I had to call customer service.

Did you check to see if the SmartDriver option in the My Chevy app was active for the 23 ZL1 vin? |

There was thread on this topic about 2 years ago. If I remember correctly, you had to send a letter to Lexus/Nexus to opt out. It wasn't On-Star Smart Driver that sends the reports out. People were saying their On-Star was disable and the info was still going out. |
Yes, I purchased new.

Big Brother Is Watching The are several components to the process. SmartDriver is the data collection. The data ends up in the LexisNexis data warehouse. Insurance companies pay to query the data warehouse for your driving metrics. You want to stop the data collection at the minimum and then deal with the data that made it into the LexisNexis data warehouse. |

That's the thread! Here's another one: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=528321 |
Remove your OnStar module, drive it for a bit and then re-request the data to see if they're actually recording it. I feel like that would help confirm your theory.

Yep, its included /wo a service plan !

Is this the right page to request the report? It doesn't mention driving records specifically so I'm assuming it'd have everything they have on us. I checked my app and I'm not enrolled in Smart Driver, but I want to check Lexis to be safe.
