ENGINE PLAQUE ON SS 1LE
2 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum but have been lurking in the shadows for the last several months lol. I came across an interesting thread topic in the ZL1 section in reference to certain ZL1 and ZL1 1LE Camaros having a plaque mounted on the super charger stating that the engine was assembled at the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green Ky.
I was working on my 2020 SS 1LE the other day and when I removed the driver side fuel rail cover I discovered that this plaque was mounted on the intake manifold cover? Have any of you found one on your SS 1LEs ? |
No.
Just made me go out and look. I only have some production sticker. |
Thanks for your reply Boost Creep.

It's pretty cool though. It's almost like they cared.
:smiling1: |
What has been discovered so far is that this plaque is placed on engines that were hand assembled by one person at the Corvette plant in Bowling Green Ky. This action was reserved for the the LS7 used in the Z28 and the LT4 and LT5 used in the Corvettes. Now some are showing up in the 2020 and possibly 2019 ZL1 and ZL1 1LEs. A source at GM allegedly stated that future engines installed in the ZL1 will be hand built by the Performance Build Center at Bowling Green. To the best of my knowledge I’m the first one to find a LT1 engine with this plaque installed on it. Very curious indeed, and also kind of cool.

Yeah, I read the OP and went out to the garage and popped off the drivers cover only to be disappointed. Me::smm7::Life |
Mine are laying on the garage floor as I decided to leave all that plastic cover BS there after replacing my plug wires. I will go look, but don't remember seeing that.

May depend on build dates for the car also? I will need to check when I get a chance to see if I have one or not.

:sorry:Just re read all the ZL1 posts about this topic, my mistake, all the plaques found on the ZL1 LT4 engine were located at the front of the supercharger. A member there made a comment about the plaque being located at the rear but that was incorrect information.

I'm thinking this is something on the newer cars as mine's an '18 and no one has mentioned this and a bunch of these have been pulled apart already. Someone would have mentioned the plaque. I still think it's pretty cool. |

Ok thanks for the replies. Well that makes 3 of us so far, all 2020 1LEs

Just FYI I’ve made a post on the Corvette forum asking if the C7 Corvettes with the LT1 engine have this plaque or not.

Does the fuel rail cover just pop or pull off? Or is it bolted on/ I haven't done anything to my car that way yet.

I had to unclip the two fuel line clips to get enough room to pop the drivers side cover off.

The Performance Build Center started in 2005 in Wixom,Mi. They built several different engines. It was moved to Bowling Green in 2014. At that time they were building LS engines, expanded with the new LT engine in 2016 and earlier models had to order the Z07 option package to get a hand built engine. If It didn’t have a Z07 option, the engine came from Tonawanda NY. In 2017 the PBC was given all Z06 engines. From then on, all Z06 and ZR1 cars were PBC engines. LT1 engines were added, but in small numbers, but I believe the engine plants were at full capacity. At some point, we got all LT1 manual transmission cars.
The above statement is from a reliable source at the factory who wishes to remain unnamed. This would explain the Corvette side of it. |
Here’s what I know so far..... Counting myself there are a total 5 known 2020 Camaro SS 1LEs that have the hand built Bowling Green LT1 engines installed. Based on information from another thread they are 54 known LT4 hand built engines installed in ZL1 Camaros. So for what ever reason these engines are in these cars, the number will be way low compared to the total number of Camaros built in 2020.
