LT1 Used Oil Analysis Thread

Borrowing an idea from another forum I am active on and creating this thread so that we can post our used oil analyses. As analyses are added to this thread I will link individual posts by oil type and viscosity so that we have a sort of database to assist in selection of oil as well as narrowing down which oils play well with this motor. Please try to keep the discussion to a minimum so that this thread doesn't turn into another oil type pissing contest.

Good thread.....I'll have to find it , but I did one on the 2nd oil change on my C7 at 1500 miles, the summation was "you could go another 12, 000 (yes twelve thousand) miles if you wanted to...."

First oil change after driving it home over 1300 miles, then a change before a track day to 5w 40.

Weird how the baseline averages for yours and mine show differences

Excellent. At that mileage good to share. These are NOT our port injection engines of the past.


To get accurate fuel dilution levels the sample has to be taken immediately after shut down and the container not allowed to be open for any amount of time as it quickly flashes off and wont give an accurate ready.

Hmmmm... Seems to confirm my ring wear hypothesis on FI'ed LT1s. Anxious for the next one but it'll be a while.

I'd like to see where specifically that iron is coming from.

Do you use high zinc oil when running WOT runs/Track etc?

Motul 8100. No way to tell but this went in during the build before dyno pulls etc. and ended with the trip to CamaroFest. Hope it clears up next time.
