Stow Away License Plate?

Does anyone have any experience or have you purchased a license plate 'hider'? The license plate frames that have a shutter to cover your plate at the touch of a button? I don't really need it as it isn't a show car and I don't run from the police and endanger people. I just think it'd be awesome to have and show people, and hey if I ever need it....I could use it. Let me know what you have and your experience with it!

Thanks in advance,
Grant

What would be a legal reason to use this?

DenverTaco07 06-04-2019 10:15 AM

Wait what?

cellsafemode 06-04-2019 10:50 AM

nothing about this is legal.

so... yea. You can't even use the "this is being done in mexico" trick.

The grey area stuff is the kind you have to be out of the car to take off or adjust. Even that will probably not get you any brownie points with a cop who notices it.

Some dude just got busted a couple months ago for using a "james bond" type plate flipper to evade tolls.

Maybe you can ask him:yo:

OK. I got one use. For track days. You may not want your license plate shown in other people's videos of you tracking your car but you would want an easy way to display it as you drove on city streets to get gas.

manually removing it via quick disconnects is the product designed for the purpose described above. (the various stow-and-show products that exist for front plates)

"on-demand" removing/hiding/stowing is strictly in the realm of illegal.

Laziness is not a viable excuse.

If you care about the rear plate being in other people's videos (why? ) then just remove it while at the track and put it back on when you leave the track. Takes less than 30 seconds and doesn't involve using a device that is 99.999% only going to be used for illegal purposes.

I've seen some people use them at local car shows to give the car a cleaner look.

Sorry bud, you didn't win best-in-show because your car had a license plate...

trublucamaro 06-24-2019 01:25 PM

Who me?

For off road use only :)

what you need is a rotary flipper that will display your bogus plate for those off to mexico runs...

Bumbleboy92 06-24-2019 03:45 PM

I've seen a DIY for this, gotta buy a piece that acts as a rotor which removes the screws and essentially removes the entire plate and plate holder if you have one.

I'll try to get a link if I can later, should be cheap and can stay within the car at all times.
