As many of you already know, the engineering design, product development, and product assembly is all done in-house in Pfadt's facility in Utah. No waiting for parts to come from overseas for assembly.
Just got an inside line on these Pfadt Featherlight ZL1 Coilovers... As most of you already know, the ZL1 comes equipped with the magnetic stability option, which is a great factory feature. However, when going to any aftermarket coilover set, you lose the ability to use the "mag-ride" . Pfadt has now incorporated the stock mag-ride with the ultimate set of coilovers, for factory adjust-ability with race quality handling! A little birdie leaked me some pictures of the NEW Pfadt ZL1 Mag-Ride Coilovers. Take notice in the pictures of the mag-ride inserts and the wiring coming from the lower shock body. |
Not to be disrespectful or dismissive of this product but I do have a question. Probably the most technically advanced and highest performance piece of the ZL1 that sets it apart from most of the muscle car world is its suspension and handling. What is trying to be achieved with these aftermarket suspension components that significantly improve one of the main reasons to buy a ZL1? Not trying to be argumentative as I am truly interested in the purpose of such an item.

That question can be posed about pretty much any upgrade on any car. The car already comes with a suspension, why replace it? The answer is plain and simple: pure performance. Flatter cornering, less deflection in the suspension joints and more consistent grip levels associated with the contact patch being planted on the pavement. The OEM suspension is fantastic, no doubt about it. But there are many concessions made in the interest of mass production and cost cutting that leave there more to be desired. Plus most cars from the factory are set up relatively soft which can overload the outside tires in a turn. One way to get the car to perform better is to simply get each tire perform more equal work when going around a turn and you do that by stiffening things up a big with bigger anti-roll bars and coilovers with upgrade spring rates, to name a few. This is stuff that the factory can not install for a variety of reasons, some having to do with costs and other associated with perceived ride quality. The adjustable coilovers in this thread actually RETAIN the full functioning Mag ride system that you bought the ZL1 for but makes it lighter weight, and adds ride height adjustability and stiffer spring rates to hold the car up a bit more in turns and lower it to the ground for a slightly better aero profile and flatter cornering. All of this contributes towards more grip and better performance. Any more questions please ask! |

This may be exactly what I need for my 2013 ZL1. I have been researching suspension products for the ZL1. There seems to be two suspension companies Pfadt and Pedders vying for the ZL1 business. They both have different theories on how it should work installed on the Camaro which is beneficial for all of us. I want to get the ride height down just a slight bit but retain the function of the Mag ride shocks! I also want better handling from the vehicle when pushed hard. I will be waiting for more information and feedback from users. I had heard a rumor that something like this was in the works. :thumbsup:

very cool. on a side note it is funny to see another ZL1 with the black wheels that have a crappy finish on them. that rim lip should be black not silver lol.
