Oil pump failure on Easter.

Well this made for a great Easter. Out testing my new R7 radar detector and come to a stop light 0 oil pressure. 7k miles 2017 ZL1. Going to have it towed to the dealership of course, can't wait for this process.

Oh man. So sorry brother. Hoping you get back on the road soon!!!

Stocktastic 04-21-2019 11:48 AM

Is it possible it was just a sensor failure?

I suppose it's possible but it sounds like the same scenario as the other ones that failed. 0 pressure at idle but builds pressure with rpm. As long as the revs were off idle, it had oil pressure.

Does it give a low oil pressure oil light? Or do you just notice the Guage sitting at zero

collinms 04-21-2019 11:59 AM

Both, low oil pressure warning light and message and guage to zero.

Sorry to hear that, I’m sure it will work out.
Sucks when something breaks.

Probably not, but I would.

Hell... I'd put the plastic back on the seats, dealer license plate frame back on, dealer sticker on the window, anything to make it appear 100% bone stock.

My 2018 ZL1's failed with 8500 miles, took the motor completely out. GM covered it.

Thanks for the info. I just hope it all goes smoothly without issues.

Thanks everyone for the nice words and info. I'll update the thread when I know more from the dealership.

I'm curious. When they replace the oil pump is there a revised pump or are they just replacing it with the same one that went bad?
