heat exchanger options

so i am looking to order my heat exchanger this week. i have been suggested to get the fan option which makes sense. my question is i was told it might be a good idea to go 1" barb fittings over the 3/4" stock.

what hoses need to be changed? will there be any other restrictions that need to be upgraded so the system doesnt flow as much as the smallest hose?

i am looking at the weaponX heat exchanger. i have seen the afco for similar pricing with fans. i am open to suggestions. mods below and car will get a cam and e85 next year.

kong ported blower
2.55 upper
2" arh headers
5"rpm intake
lower thermostat
idx 1050s
reinforced brick
prospeed expansion tank

Well I have a afco without fans and a weapon x high flow pump for sale. The heat exchanger is thermal coated as well. All brand new. Being that your not in an area that is extremely hot and humid you prob don’t need fans. That’s what I was told when I was looking. I’ve just decided not to do the mods I wanted so selling everything. Now if your at the track all the time then maybe fans would be a good idea.

i am going to build the car to be enjoyed and if my want grow to 1/2 mile, 2/4 mile, auto x, road course i want to just have it done. its only a few hundred more and then i wont have to pull the bumped and spend that money twice.

did you go with 3/4" or 1" or AN lines on the HX? i thought the pump was pretty stout stock? what is the flow on the weaponX compared to the stock pump?

MD sees 98 degrees with high humidity in the summer. so i think i am going to go with fans.

Ron Davis ftw.

i know there are plenty of options. and ron davis, alradco, weaponX, etc.

i am trying to focus on what is needed to convert to 1" hose and not leak coolant everywhere.

what all needs to be replaced? 21,19,16,8,7? and all bends and couplers and clamps? do you need to do anything to the pump or intercooler in and out to accommodate 1" hose over 3/4"?

Assuming you did the math calculation that the current pump is going to push any more fluid through a 1/4 diameter increase against the head pressure in the systems.

**did you mean ISNT going to move more**. and that was my thought is upgrading to 1" over 3/4 on a system built for 3/4 without upgrading pump and intercooler is not going to net any results. any idea how much HP the 3/4" hose keeps up with until IATs spike to quickly and take too long to come back down?

Yes I meant the bending of the hoses are the issue with the Head Pressure more so than increasing the diameter of the hose by 1/4 inch vs just getting a faster pump. Here are two good URL'S to read.

Another option over a faster pump is running an additional pump in series with the existing one. I have one on each side of my heat exchanger.

ok for now i think i am going to just order it with the stock size lines and upgrade the pump when i go more pully and e85. thanks for the data.

The factory pump with an AFCO triple pass w/ fans is my prime setup. I have it backed up for super hot days with a Killer Chiller interchiller which will keep my IAT2s at or under ambient.

I did dual intercooler pumps and 3 heat exchangers on mine (plus the intercooler brick upgrade and the Roush Cobra reservoir)...
