Powder coating wheels

The SHH and 56F black wheels are LPO.

Would powder coating the $200 grey split spokes make more sense than ordering the LPO wheels? Or just use the stock split spoke RS wheels. Thoughts? Benefits? Negatives?

Has anyone had their wheels powder coated? How much did it cost? How long did it take?

Since no replies I used my google-fu to round up a little info.

Looks like cost is generally $75-125 per wheel.
Plus, whatever it cost to have tires unmounted/remounted/balanced.

Power coating in rims is tricky... In most cases you will chip the power coat anytime you do anlignment or have the tires and wheels turned. Unless you find a really good place to go.

That's really strange.

Way way back I worked for a powder coating place. A properly prepped steel/aluminum results in an extremely durable finish.

Not to say that I don't believe you. But, I wonder if chipping powder coating is a result of a wheel not being sand blasted first?

Never had anything like that happened to my rims, Did my car and motorcycle and no chipping or scratches when changing tires and or doing alignment. Maybe it's the shop? Cost wise it was 100 dollars a rim. I did it my rims at No Limit powder coating in Ventura. Did really great work, I'll post some pics when I get home.

I'm considering powder coating as well. I'd like to know more.

I cant find any pictures of when i did my car..such a long time ago bu,t ill keep looking. here is a before and after of my GSXR when i got the rims done.

just removed the tires and gave them the wheels...

Attachment 746353

they stripped off previous color, prepped the rims, and blasted with the new color fire engine red. They removed and attached discs for me for 5 dollars more.

I've been tracking the bike for about 2 years on weekends so lots of tire removing and grime, still when i wash the rims they look like the they day I got them.

Also considering this. LOVE the split spoke wheels they show on the silver SS convertible, but would love to see those in black.

Ive been thinking the same thing on powder coating my rims. Does anyone have any pictures of their cars dipped or coated in black?

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Detroit Wheel is doing. Check out this link:

I have run 5 sets of powedercoated wheels, changing tires on many of them. Never seen one chip in my experience.

Just dropped off a set of stock SS wheels to be powder coated. $100 per rim for sandblast and coat. Having them done a dark grey.

When I get them back I'll post some pics. I didn't hassle the shop over a quick turn around. As I don't expect to take my all seasons off until May.
