ZLE Drag Radials size
 

I'm thinking on buying a set of drag radials for the occasional drag strip days. I wanted the Nittos NT05R since I had experience with them in my previous ZL1 (2013) but for the 19" wheels I'm limited to 345/30/19. Will it fit my ZLE? What other options you reccomend?

PS: The car is stock but I have performance parts ordered so it won't stay stock for long. I went to a roll racing event this past weekend and it lightened up the tires like nothing (currently on Michelin ps4)

If it fit your 5th Gen it will be too big for the 6th Gen.

My only experience is with 18's though.

...and ditch the Nittos. Mickey Thompson is the way to go unless you are daily driving it too.

My 5th Gen had 315's and for the ZLE will be (if I bought them) 345's because of the 19" wheels.

I've heard that Mickey Thompson have some issues in anything bigger than 18". Don't know if that's true.

The size I was talking about is Diameter and fitting in the fender well. Haven't heard any issues with M/T but way more sizes available with the NITTOs, especially in 19.

I'm kind of interested in this one too since the ZLE can take wider tires and putting them on our 19" wheels would be nice too.
Moved to the ZL1 section for a while to see if others have done this.

I currently have a set of 355/30r19 Kumho ACR's on the back of mine for autocross and trackday work. They fit with a little work.

Most I've seen are running 17 or 18 ET Street Rs, unless you are trying to mount them to the stock wheels and street them also. NTO5r last the longest but not the stickiest option avail now. EDFHOBBIES posted pictures of 19 in 345s on his car.

I'm running R888Rs stock ZLE 19 in size and they are a good streetable roll race tire, but I want something stickier to really hook from a dig. I'm looking at 325/35/18 ET Street Rs as I have some 18s in my garage and a member here ran 9s on that tire.

The 18 is not an option for me right now. I was thinking in the R888R also but don't know if it will be enough. My car is stock but I already ordered exhaust, intake, cat deletes and a tune after that. So Inhave to take that in consideration.

R888R will handle that no problem. They’ll handle 800+ RWHP actually. They are a bit noisy on the highway but it’s the price you pay for a tire that can launch, roll, and track. All the 250+ MPH, 2500+ AWHP TT Lambos run them, and so do 800+ RWHP McLarens, Corvettes, etc.

Get the R888R unless you are going to exclusively drag race, then you need to go 18” with a Mickey. But those have a lot of trade offs.

No perfect solution. Just some that have better trade offs than the others.

What are the trade offs of the Mickey? I have someone that can find me 2 MT 325/30/19 for $650. I think that price is really good considering the R888R are over 400 each.
But again, I read somewhere that MT over 18" are not as good as under 18"

The only one I know of is they wear out faster, but you won't get any better traction straight line.

Hope you're doing more than just radials. ZLE is a pain to drag race.

Fast wear is a trade off but the bigger trade off for me is the sway you'll experience at ~120 MPH and up. Plus, you cannot take turns aggressively at all. Entrance ramps are reduced to minivan status. Mind you, this isn't a big deal if you're only bolting them on at the drag strip or air strip. But if you drive it on the road, the trade offs are worse. If you get a slick, it's usually worse than a radial. I've driven cars on slicks that you have to be careful how you let off the throttle because the sudden weight transfer really unsettles the back end and it can change a lane on its own. I tend to overanalyze and hate negative changes, so for that reason, I am an R888R advocate because in my mind, the only downside to them is the tire hum. Then again, with a loud exhaust you may not notice that anyways. Cost and quick tire wear isn't really a downside for me as I expect both with a high performance tire.

IF you are truly drag racing or roll racing with big power, you will need an 18" or less radial/slick, which there's nothing wrong with. But stock power/even bolt on power (~650 RWHP or less), not super necessary, especially considering the M6 ZLE doesn't really launch at all.
