Upgrade for the Track
 

If you were going to road race a ZL1, what suspension changes would you make while keeping the adjustable mag ride to give you the absolute best track handling and track time.

BMR upgrades to the rear and the lockout kit.

100% Rear toe rods (SPL or BMR) and 1LE solid cradle bushing or lockout. Thats it.

Stock rear toe gets knocked out every dang track day for me. PITA

What can be an expected improvement of the 3r’s over the standard 3’s.

Also, IIRC, he has Continentals on his.

Do ZL1 and ZL1 1LE have the same OEM toe rods?

3R is probably good for close to 1 sec improvement for every mile of track I'd say (of course depending on the track). Quite a bit stickier and last maybe 25%-35% as long as the 3's. Problem is more stick = more suspension lean, so need stiffer setup and more camber to really use the tire properly. I think regular 3's are a damn good match for a stock street/track ZL1 personally with track alignment settings.

I bought SPL parts and still have more on the list. I also have the GMPP bushing kit

I have read about the Tractive Coilovers and controller and tbey seen like it will outperform the DSSV and still feel good on the street. Maybe in the near future I'll upgrade.

I'd start with time on track. Most folks will not get 7 out of 10 the way the car is.

1. Seat time
2. Lightweight wheels & track tires
3. Track pads
4. More seat time

I 100% agree.

Id put heavy emphasis on the track alignment, it make a very noticeable difference. Track time and more track time. Stock tires work very well.

The only mod I have done is the BMR cradle lock out kit. I definitely could feel the difference on track

Continentals??? Not for long. I'm going back to my Michelin PSC2's on the rear when these wear out (when I had my 7, 15 years ago, it was PSC's on the rear (and PS on the front) and loved the grip). I will have an extra set of racing wheels that I'll bring in my trailer. I learned about this awesome Formula 1 certified track we have here, brand new Chang Circuit, about 4 hours from my "current" house. I might have to buy a retirement home there if I really start liking the track. So it will be PSC2 or the Toyos all the way around, whatever people believe is gripping the most for the best lap times...... and I'm going to buy an after market suspension set up that will let the alignment be adjusted once and it will stay. Hopefully, I'll be able to save the 2 alignment settings (a fine line marks the spots, Touring and Track) and then adjust them on my own back at my house. I'm also buying my own lift in a few weeks. Life will be good once I change treads though. These Contis are already heat cycled and I can easily lose traction in 5th gear with about 50% throttle, even on cement they're starting to get squirrelly in 3rd. On the other hand, it is too much fun in Sport mode with the safeties off, LOL. Slid'in the Bit@h everywhere. I love it.... Thailand is a great place to drive.... the only rule is don't wreck.
