At 600 miles I brought it in for the first fluid change, what a beautiful underside! Approx. 1.4 quarts in the rear end, full 10 in the engine.

Ah ya this cars beautiful. About to do my change too on here looking for the correct rear diff fluid haha

Forgive me for asking, but why did you change the fluids at 600 miles?
|
because all the fluids should be changed at 500 miles. then again at 1000. GM wont tell you that because they dont want you to know you have to spend money on the car so soon. The engine oil isnt that big of a deal on new cars. Its more for checking to see if you have metal in the oil befor it blows. You have a warranty so you dont really have to worry about it. The engine is mostly broken in at the factory. the rear diff though. that is completely broken in by you. at 500 miles it will be dark to black and have alot of metal shavings in it. If you ask a diff builder they will tell you 500 and again at 1000 miles. then you will have clean diff fluid. The manual trans iv found is like new even at 13,000 miles so dont bother with that. the auto I dont know about. but if its older than 2019 it has to be changed to the new Mobil 1 HP LV stuff.

I am just hitting 580 and my oil change is scheduled for this Friday. Was trying to get it at 500, but it was a week before I could get a service appointment.
Strange, but the break in info I was given says to change engine oil at 500 miles (while driving in a certain manner, controlling RPM etc) and then diff at 1500, then ready to rock! I have no info on diff at 600 or anything before 1500. Why is this different? |
ask a diff builder they say 500 then again at 1000. When you see the fluid it backs up why. At 500 it will be metallic black. At 1000 it will be gray. Then it will stay clear with regular oil changes.

Those rear wheels look BEEFY
|
I changed my rear diff at 500 and it was as clean as new fluid. The was a small amount stuff on the magnet.

lucky. iv had 5 new sets of gears. 12 camaro ss i put 3.91gears in so counted twice. 17 Camaro SS 12 Silverado and 17 Silverado. All were metallic black at 500 miles. but ask a gear builder.

I will probably stick with this schedule, though depending on the situation I might do the rear diff earlier. |
its extremely easy to do yourself. the dealers charge a ridiculous amount. it cost $40 to do it the 1st time including tools $20 after and 15min on your back. you need a 3/8 ratchet 1.5qts of fluid and a hand pump. Dealer wants $150.
