Edelbrock 2650 build stock setup to 1000hp
6 Attachment(s)
This build will start by testing the Edelbrock 2650 blower attached to a ZL1 with headers and some type of intake. (will see if the Cold Air Inductions will fit seeing how it has a hard carbon elbow instead of a flexible elbow) My car already has headers installed I can't really give results on what it would do on a stock zl1 platform with manifolds and cats.
*FYI* This kit is so new there was no data available on what pulleys combos will work for a stock zl1 setup. I have the ATI balancer so I have purchased a 7.8x stock ring. In Fact the blower doesn't even come with upper pulley on it. I ordered a 3.0, 3.25, 3.50, and 3.75.. There is a 4 inch available but the tech was worried about it rubbing the 103mm TB. The next test will consist using a 103mm N.W. TB, 2650 blower, DSX Auxiliary pump, lingenfelter big bore pump, and 30% larger FIC injectors. I have seen a lot questions about these fuel parts asking "how much power can they make with out doing a cam swap?" also a majority of the people ask will it handle e85 with out mixing and at what power level. The final test will consist of the above parts along with ported heads and a GT31 camshaft. This should make about 850 rwhp on 93 octane and 930 on e85. NO METH! This is according to the the Lingenfelter packages and videos posted by them. I will probably end up using my 9.2 lower and 3.50 vs 8.X lower and 3.00 like Redline and Lingenfelter's done. Looks like a great project! I’ll definitely be following along and looking forward to your results. Thanks for posting this up.

Subbed..... I was turned off from edelbrock blowers from the heat issues with the tvs2300s...... after seeing the 2650s at PRI, with the giant brick and dual pass... I'm excited to see how well they perform

Is the 2650 soon to be on shop shelves? Or is yours an early release?

Excited for your build. I hope to have one on the way in a few weeks to start my build

Began installing the blower over this weekend to test stage 1... (stock zl1 fuel system with headers, and intake)
Removed OEM blower pretty straight forward with their directions and Katech's video. Installation key notes: 1. Transferred over the following items from the old blower. Pcv seal, intake seals, Tmap, Map, Purge solenoid, and the Evap sensor. 2. Removed the 9.17 lower and replaced with stock zl1 sized ATI blower ring 3. Installed upper 3.75 4. Remove the foam upright section of the insulator located between valley cover and blower to make room for larger rotor pack.. see upright section in 1st pick One good thing is that GATES Greenback k080845HD that I was using on the stock upper and 9.17 lower fits perfectly(if the belt was brand new I would probably get 1/4 to 3/8 longer if available. Before I go into detail I need to explain 1 thing.. Edelbrock made this blower available early to meet customers needs plain and simple I applaud them for doing so unlike maggi that kept saying 3 mos., next month, 1st of next year blah blah blah tired of the bs and waiting .. Edelbrock's directions are a mix of vette and SS steps and pics, there's no upper pulley in the kit yet, and there are 3 things that need to be addressed. I'll work with them and get the directions and other concerns delt with. 1. The purge solenoid needs to be removed and relocated on the front of the cylinder head according to the directions.. that's all good for a vette there pcv box isn't located there like it is on the zl1. (This isn't to big of a deal but to make it look good it is to me) I'm going to make a bracket to mount simile to the oem.. I can't stand these big ugly vacuum lines I'll try to reuse the stock ones. 2. Tmap sensor is moved to the driver's side from the back of the OEM blower, yet there is a spot for one on the opposite side that has a plug for map but needs to be drilled for bolt to hold it in place. Down side you need to order 20 inch extension..if they would drill this spot no harness needed. 3. Address how to fill the system up with coolant basically add a small reservoir similar to the ADM kit. 4. The worst part of the install is clearancing the hood... if you ever removed your hood insert to wrap the hood or install xpel you will notice its has a black cover sheet that you remove to get to the bolts that attach the cf insert. Once the cover is removed you will notice the hood is 2 layers. The lower layer closest to the blower will need to be cut out. WATCH THIS VIDEO AT 4:25 MARK https://youtu.be/6f89koIuNdo So that's where I stand now is to cut hood, order a Iroc hood, or maybe Anderson Composite will clear. I may order the insert from LPE or try to make one I have some carbon fiber 3 twill and epoxt.. I've made some molds in the past for rc planes so I'm pretty confident i can do something nice. I'm sure this post will discourage most but remember this kit isn't really released yet. Interesting things.. The blowers bolts that hold the unit to heads are outside the unit.. not to terrible hard to tighten unless you don't have a swivel joint and electric ratchet. Also the holes are drilled for a LT1 or LT4. The snout is ready for a 103mm TB... |
Very interesting. In for results
|
That's awesome
|
Nice work. Do you know what Redline did for the hood on their build?
|
Looks awesome
The cutting of the hood looks unnerving... but hey... gotta pay to play. I've been waiting for the Maggie 2650 but if its delayed too much longer...... Great post. Looking forward to the next chapter |
Any official release date on a kit? I talked to them and said it is available for purchase. The sc not the kit though

I haven't heard of a date yet...Exactly ^ just a head unit for now!
They have some stuff to work out... 1st testing a pulley combo w CAN tune, 2nd mounting kit for the purge solenoid (bracket and where to install it) and a reservoir kit (this is optional you can still use the vacuum style one the oem if you wanted to) 3rd the hood problem..(cut out a section out or buy a new hood).. I'm going to take the lid off the blower and see if the hump on it is the only clearance issue before I cut and and make a carbon fiber insert. It would cost much to send lif or redesign one. 1. I should be able to get to the tuner next week.. (so a pulley combo will be solved) 2. I found a spot and made a bracket for the solenoid so the harness fits with no extension and vacuum hoses are all over the place. 3. I can't see the hood problem fixed the rotor pack is just to big.. there's a reason that the magnuson's car has a blower coming out of the hood. Also if you where to put the LT5 blower on from what I have heard there are some clearance issue with the hood or hood to sealing area on the back side. |
