DONE! - 2017 - Heads Up Display - DIY

6 Attachment(s)
Since I've already started doing the IO5-IO6 upgrade and the Enhanced Display upgrade, I've decided to work on the HUD add as well. And yes... I know the windshield may need to be changed / film added. One step at a time. I just want to get it all working first.

I didn't see a complete upgrade list, so I've worked on that. The Enhanced Display will be programmed for this option (Thanks Chris @ White Auto). So far, here's the parts list.

HUD - 84016314
HUD Bezel - 23168369 - This goes around the hole in the dash
Upper Dash Cover - 84124213 - Or you can figure out the hole position and cut it out of your dash.
Front Trim Panel - 84225815 - This panel has the hole for the 3 buttons controlling the HUD. (cut it out if you want)
HUD Display Switch - 23193704
Display Switch Bezel - 23197097
HUD Bolts - X 4 - 11589012
HUD Nuts - X 4 - 11609759

Now the cabling...

Main X1 connector for the back of the HUD - PT2558

Will need 1 piece - 13575859 - OEM Lead with connector to splice X1 pin 1 to IPC x1 Pin 21.
OR...
Terminal Pins for Cluster to make your own wire: 928999-1 Mouser Electronics - 100ct Cut strip

LVDS (USB cable for X2) - 23390635... Thanks to cooper1965!

3 button switch connector. PT3130 / 19300398

There is also a 12V wire coming from X225 harness pin 22 to PT2558 (X1) pin 6. I'll probably have to create this based on the fact that my car did not have the UV6 (HUD) option. 12V switched shouldn't be too hard to create. The diagram shows it going to a 15A fuse. F16RA. Since the power for the cluster is also used for the Head-up display, that will be an easy tap. X225 pin 23 goes to the cluster for power.. that'll be the T-Tap point.

I think that is it.... as I get these parts in and work on the install... I'll post pictures and success / failures as it comes. If anyone has any missing part numbers, just let me know.

Tools ....
10mm socket.
7mm socket (2 types... at least 8 inches long and a universal joint)
Plastic trim tools.
Magnetic telescopic tool.... to grab screws before they are lost from the cluster...

See post 29 for the completion....

Are you adding a HUD to a 1SS?

Similar.... 1LT. But I believe to have the HUD, you would first have to have a mimimum of IO5 and the Enhanced Cluster. If I'm wrong, someone will have to chime in. Besides the parts and cabling listed.

Is this the X2 Mini B USB cable? I've been looking for that part number.

I believe it to be sir , the description is weak. Here is the location, not that it helps much either.

And the cheapest I've found is about $72 shipped. Hate to buy it and be wrong. I still need some sort of pigtail for the 3 button HUD switches. I don't want to buy the complete harness at around $500.

That 19300398 will come as a connector with leads, or are you looking for the other end?

The connector with leads to connect to the switch. I will splice where they go based on the diagram. I just cannot find that 19300398... if that's the appropriate one.

Another search says PT3130.... does that even look right?

cooper1965 05-01-2018 08:54 AM

Yeah, it looks right to me.
19300398 CONNECTOR KIT, I/P WRG HARN (HEAD-UP DISPLAY SWITCH) (BLACK) (4-WAY FEMALE) (W/LEADS) (SI ELEC CODE: S27) (ACDelco #PT3130) (Service Lane Part) A 2017-2017 01 63.89 12H X2486
I dont see another viable option, as far as part numbers go. It looks like GM has inventory at the source in MI.

Sweet! Thanks! Not sure how I overlooked that partnumber. Going to cost me around $35 though. Man.... I wish I could see a picture of the USB cable though. 23390635.
