P0711 Trans Temp Sensor

Just got this today...any idea if it would be safe to drive for a bit or should it go straight to shop?

My Truck with an 8L90 trans has been throughing a 711Code for 3 Years, Reset the CEL and DRIVE IT!!!!! If it comes back, Have the Dealer check it!!!

It is fine to drive, it may require a new harness to fix properly. Last I saw it is a $1k repair bill to have the harness replaced.

Damn. Not what I wanted to hear at Christmas 1000 miles over warranty...I was hoping for around 500...

Won't the dealership be willing to help you out, given you're barely over warranty mileage? In fact, you don't even know yet for sure whether or not the harness need replacing, it could be something less expensive.

I hope so, couldnt get appt until Thurs though, so will just have to wait and see...however I am tuned so they might not like that lol.

The harness and temp sensor may fall under the 5yr/60k mile warranty, especially since it is inside of the transmission pan.

Unfortunately I'm at about 62K...

I had the same issue around the same time last year. Took almost 2 weeks to get my car back. Dealership didn't realize that they had ordered the wrong part until car was on the lift and transmission pan had been removed.

I am still under powertrain warranty and dealer won't fix the trans electrical issue

What exactly is your issue? Do you have this P0711 code?

dmcmahan60 12-01-2021 05:41 AM

Talk to your dealership and see what they can do. I just had this issue fixed last week for $550 at my local dealership. My car is tuned and told them up front not to recal or reset the ECU or TCM and did a great job. The wiring harness is less than $100 but they have to drop the pan and refill with fluid. Good luck:)

The P0711 is the transmission temperature sensor code and it will also throw the P0700 code which is a generic TCM fault code.

Woke up to check engine code P0711. Kinda sucks 26k miles on it
