What oil to use

Almost time to pull the car from storage which means it will need an oil change. My last 2 were 5W-30. This year, I plan to get a few track days in but mostly daily driving. Should I switch over to Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP? Is Amazon a good place to get this?

There’s a big booklet in the glove box that lets you know what oil to use :)

I know there was a change from 2018 to 2019s so the new recommendation is not in my book

Why not, Amazon or eBay have it fairly priced. I purchased two cases a few weeks ago on eBay for $49ea and free shipping.

I went with summit racing for the 0w-40esp.

My 2 local dealers wanted $15.50 and $23 PER QUART!

I told them they need to lookup case prices and both replied this is the price GM sets.

I told them summit racing (it’s 5 miles from here) sells them for under $10 per quart and they wouldn’t do anything at all. Not sure if my dealers just suck or if they are all like that

They are all like that. I got mine from Napa Auto parts for about $6 per quart when they had it on sale. Might be worth giving them a look.

Motul X-clean is $9 a quart on Amazon. Napa is great when Valvoline is on sale. I bought 22 quarts last time.

The new M1 dex2 will be at Walmart eventually, and hopefully for 25$ for 5quarts :D

Isn't the 0W-40 ESP the new recommended for street use and track use? So I wouldn't need to swap oil just to swap between the 2?

Exactly.

It is also a low saps oil that helps with valve deposits on our direct injected motors.

No. No need to swap between track and dd with any of the recommended Dexos 2 oils per the manual.

All the new Mobil 1 oil does is enables GM dealers to sell Dexos 2 oil for our cars which is good for BOTH track and DD. Until now they had no such oil to offer as they were limited to semi synthetic 5w30.

I use Valvoline 5w40 Dexos 2. Better summer weight imo for warm vs cold starts. Also recommended in the car's manual amongst others. Yes: it is good for both track and DD duty. Per the manual.

Although it is the same oil I would always change oil before and after the track day. On the track the oil will be heavily used.

mine wants $16.78 per L (they are not quart bottles) each here in S. FLA

Airfuel 03-17-2019 02:55 PM

The M1 0W40 esp from Amazon is quarts. ($49.99 per 6pack, now 54.99)
Strange that dealers sell liter bottles.

I've also been running the Valvoline 5W-40 MST for both track and street with 0 issues for the last two summers. Meijer carries the 5 qt. jugs for $20-$25 in all the stores I've been to in the Metro Detroit area, so I'd assume the carry it in all of their stores. Only place I've been able to find it that cheap, too.
