DIY: Upgrade to outside heated mirrors

1 Attachment(s)
A comprehensive guide on how to remove and upgrade your existing unheated outside mirrors, found on LS, 2LS, 1LT and 1SS trim levels.

28 pages long, with pictures for each step showing how to completely disassemble the outside mirrors to their base components; to upgrade to heated from non-heated, or for replacement of broken parts.

Tested and working on 2012 and 2013 1LT Camaros. PDF updated 2015.

If anyone has any questions not answered in this guide, just ask...

Thank you so much for this DIY!!! My Camaro is my daily driver and just as you mentioned I HAVE to use the side mirrors since the blind spots are huge. I appreciate this more than you know.

Deleted due to wrong info.

Any chance of an updated diy to include instructions for 2012+?

Many thanks to the OP for this detailed DIY! In even better news my mirrors ended up heating without additional wiring needed! My car is a 2013 1LT and I purchased mirrors from another member with a 2014 model. After performing the "gut swap" I installed the mirrors with the intent of coming back later to do the extra wiring. Fast forward to a cold, frosty morning, I kicked on the rear defrost and lo and behold the mirrors defrosted too! Thanks again to yzark99 for all the time and effort on this DIY. Not sure what is different besides year models in our setups, but mine ended up being plug and play. No bcm update, no extra wiring.

mad props to the OP for this post. I was able to replace mine in less than an hour. I have a 2013. this is going to sound stupid, but the hardest part for me was disconnecting the old mirror harness. I just used the small flathead to gently pry the wiring connector open and it slid right out. had me stressin for about 10 minutes. That oughta give you an idea how "not so complicated" this was. kudos Yzark!!!!

*also, i used some old speaker wire as a fishing tool to guide the new cables in. FYI*

I tested this again, and it Is Working in my 2012; without programming the BCM as I was originally told needed to be done by a forum member who sells mods.

I drove home this morning after midnight, and my rear window and side mirrors were completely unusable due to fogging. I turned on my rear defroster, and within 5 minutes, all 3 were clear. I stopped the car, and checked for heat coming from the side mirrors; but I couldn't feel any.

Later on my drive, I was going through some heavy fog (where I could see maybe 20' ahead), and I noticed that my passenger side mirror was fogging up. I only had the 1/3 closest to the window clear. I turned on the rear defroster button, and within a minute, the mirror was totally clear. :happyanim:

So, this mod appears to work in all camaros from 2010-2013, and I suspect 14-15 also. Plug OEM heated mirrors in, and they work.

So glad yours are working too!
