How many miles does everybody have on their LGX?
We have a carbon deposit thread. A guy found a large carbon buildup on the valves of his LGX with only 4,000 miles on the clock. This could possibly be an isolated incident rather than something we can all count on happening to our engines. That's why I am wondering how many miles these engines have built up in this forum. And whether or not they have had problems along the way.

8200, and there's oil from the larger tube on the right entering the intake.
Not really worried though. My second camaro with a direct injection enginw. They make a cleaner for it, so really no need to worry or panic. It's not an epidemic or anything. Do any bit of research on GDI engines and you'll see this is a byproduct of direct injection. Heck, even boosted engines... good, efficient, but if the engine isn't built for, boost can shorten it's life. Nature of the beast |
3,500 miles

574 miles.

2,900:thumbup:

I now have a touch over 800 miles and I'm loving it. I look for errands to run at home. :thumb:

So far I'm in second with 7,000 Miles!
I don't have issues, but I have not inspected for carbon either. Whiskey |
7,600 miles here

Long weekend of wrestling...just bumped that to 8870+

3600 here

Just hit 500.

just rolled over 3000 miles.
edit: this thread is related to the carbon buildup thread. I'm not convinced the amount of carbon buildup on 1 engine can be construed as the norm, but i'm not going to pull the engine apart to compare mine just for the fun of it. Couple things to note when / if you ever look in at the valves. What oil / how clean do you keep it (filter, change intervals), do you use and what fuel. I use full synth pennzoil (changed at 1500 and 1500 miles on the new oil) with fram ultra filter and 91 octane (most, if not all from shell). I think if there is a carbon buildup issue, it'll be heavily influenced by the quality of your oil and how dirty you let it get with some portion also having to do with impurities in the fuel. |

Def true. Some oils aren't as stout as they claim. They break down under spirited driving via heat and the vaporization of various parts of the oil (base stock, additives, etc) are those things that adhere to the valves from blow by that is considered acceptable. Me I use 89 octane, some gas stations I go to aren't the greatest, but I use quantum blue custom blended oil. The first change was at 2844, and I'll run this till 10k on the engine which will be about 7k miles roughly and as on the last car, and the one before that, get an oil analysis to see if there's any wear I should be worries about on every oil change. I know a lot of people are freaking out about it, but it really is manageable. Nothing to panic about unless you just ABSOLUTELY SUCK at maintainence 😂 |
