1st Oil Change?

18 1SS 1LE
Reading through the owners manual, I'm unclear when the 1st oil change is actually due.
Nothing is listed in the service maintenance section.
The manual on page #331 states when the " Change Engine Oil Soon " light appears, change out the oil within the next 600 Miles.
Nothing regarding engine oil is even mentioned in the Service Maintenance Section.

I did my first change at 1000 miles. From there, I plan on doing it again at 5000 miles. And then at every 5000 interval from there forward.

Manual says 500, but it's like put 500 miles on then do an oil change. I did mine at like 789 miles? then 3000 then every 5000.

Ask any GM tech and they'll say "when the oil life percentage says 20%"
I actually think its better to wait until 3-5k miles or so (unless you are tracking).
You do want the motor to actually break in.

Metal shavings in your oil doesn't help anything.

Like waxes, no one will ever agree what is best.....my personal regimen is to change annually or 5000 miles, which ever occurs first.

The Specialist 03-22-2019 09:36 AM

I was asking about the first oil change during break in.
The manual says nothing about a first oil change, only to change your oil within six hundred miles of the change oil light coming on.

There's nothing in the maintenance section at all for any oil change according to mile intervals.

GM feels that if it's not in the manual you shouldn't do it. There are'nt many cars out there that request a 500 mile oil change, some of the C7 vets do, there may be others . but in general the industry follows the oil minder.

I hear what you're saying. I'll be able to take my 1LE out of storage next month and I'm right around 1100 miles on the odo.

I located the manual and had noticed that nothing was said for the first oil change.

Later, I went on the MyChevrolet site to pull up my vehicle and noticed they have this listed below.

I'm guessing if you're intending to spend any time at the track with your car, GM's notes a first oil change here at 500 miles.

Ok, is it true?
Ride her like you stole her during break in?
Or, Ride her like a Grandfather that cannot get an erection?

I'm guessing that you should break her in the way you intend to treat her throughout her life. If you're going to run your car at the Track, you need to break her in differently.
If you're going run your Camaro as a grocery shopper, you need to break her in as grocery girl.

You didn't get the point?
There's nothing in the manual or performance supplement paperwork like this.
I copied and pasted the above from the My Chevrolet website under;

"2018 CAMARO MODELS TRACK PREPARATION"

This break in procedure must be for the Camaro that'll be spending multiple weekends at the track throughout it life and not just a daily driver.

I didn't realize you made all these posts lol.

You are correct that this info is on the track prep guide but doesn't that come with like everything but LS/LT models and vert SS's? SS coupes come with it I thought, cuz thats where it talks about the removable brake ducts.

I can confirm that dealership service advisors have no idea on this topic either, Is a break in procedure listed on any base Corvette material?
