ZL1 Stock Tires - How many miles
Hi,
I have a few questions about the stock tires on our ZL1(s)
Thanks! |
I have 7000 miles on mine, and the tires have a lot of life left in them. In one of the grooves you should see a small notch which is the wear indicator. The notch in the groove is the same height as when you should replace your tires.

2. There have to be wear bars in the tread that, when you're worn down to them appear as solid rubber strips across the various tread grooves.
1. It's heavily dependent on your driving and on how well your car's alignment and inflation pressures suit that specific driving. Some people barely get 5000 miles per 100 rated treadwear. Other folks can get 10,000 or more per 100. I can usually get 12,000/100 or a bit more on any car with any tires and I don't drive gently (but I don't drag race or do burnouts, which are huge influences). Norm |
I have 17,000 miles on my original tires and they are done. The rears are worse than the fronts (as they should be!). That includes some autoX at the past 2 Camaro5Fests and probably 15 drag strip runs with light burnouts.
The rears don't grip anymore and the tread is almost down to the wear bars. The fronts probably could go a little longer, but I will swap the set. The new ones will be installed before my drive to Camaro5Fest. I picked up a lightly used (1,000 miles) set of tires off a 1LE and will be running a square setup. I got such a good deal I couldn't pass it up! |
12,500 and need replacing

11,000...some life but not great

About the same here. I have about 18 k and the fronts are almost to the wear bars. The rears were done around 16k and I had bought two rears from a friend about a year ago for $150 and I had put them on back in December. Now those are about the same as front. I have had to daily drive my car since November so I drive a little more aggressive. Just can't help it, I just love this car. |
First, check your wear markers.
Second, depends on what you do with your car. I don't really do any HPDE or AutoX, so I probably didn't wear mine as fast as some. I launched on a dag strip about 100 times on the original set. So the rears were pretty well gone when the fronts still had some life. I got 22,500, but I probably went just a little long. Maybe closer to 21k would have been better. |
10k and done
|
8000k and mine are done. Not a daily driver (meaning I really test the tires every drive)
|
11k and they were slicks. I kept very close attention to the PSI, but daily drive like i am in a police chase, meaning i spun the back tires at least 2 or 3 times a day, plus quite a few trips to the drag strip.
|
I just replaced the brake pads today with the Hawk performance ceramic pads, and I saw the back tires are almost down to the wear bars. I'm just under 10000 miles. The fronts still have plenty of life left. I don't track it, but I drive fairly aggressively. Planning on replacing the Goodyear tires with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

15k on the stocks and they are bald. They were probably done at 13k but i still have them on. I DD with them and have made 10 passes at the strip. They slide and skid a little, but at least it makes me keep my foot out of it!

11k and they are done. New ones before c5fest5
