Easy 6th Gen Puddle Lights Install
 

This will show how to easily add puddle lights to your 6th gen. The installation will be completly contained in the door trim panel, and will only turn on when the door is opened, and not whenever the dome light is on.

First thing, in addition to your choice of projectors and some misc connectors, you will need to obtain some automotive plunger switches. These from Amazon worked well for me.

After you have done it this way once or twice, you see that you can just grab the top of the trim and PULL away HARD (after removing the screws, of course), and save some steps. But you should do it his way first to undestand how it all fits together.

The finished job will be completely independent of the rest of the car.

We'll start by drilling a 5/8" hole, 1" in from the edge, in this approximate location on the front facing surface.
A large step drill works well for this. But be careful! To small and tight will squeeze the internal spring, and you will likely break the "inexpensive" switch while trying to remove it again. Don't let the hole get to big, or you will have to come up with an alternative way to hold the switch in.
The rubber cap seen here won't be needed due to a better switch being found.

Next, we'll take the hole saw that came with the projectors, and drill through the center in this approximate location on the downward facing side.
Install the projector snuggly, but not so tight that you can't turn it at all. You will want to be able to turn it to align your image, later. Tighten the set screw so the nut doesn't come loose while you align it.

Connect some wire, I had some green speaker wire kicking around, to the switch with some small female spade crimp-ons. Put them on any 2 of the 3 prongs in the end of the switch. Connect the switch and projector at the door panel connectors, with assorted crimp-on and vampire terminals.
On the drivers side, it will be Red w/violet stripe (+) and Black (-) on the black connector.
On the passenger side, it will be Red w/blue stripe (+) on the grey connector, and Black (-) on the black connector.
(You might also choose to add a small inline fuse immediately at the (+) wire connection)

Route the wires like in the 3rd post, using a few wire ties. Take care that the wires to the switch will not be pinched by the speaker.
Re-attach the door trim to the door. Done!

Most people will be done here. The next part is for those with OCD ;) .
I noticed in the first photo that here is some distortion of the ring of text, specifically the word CAMARO. (This effect might not be noticeable with other graphic designs.)
The bottom of the door trim panel is not level with the ground!
Off it comes again.
I fashioned a clamp from a 3/8" bolt, nuts and fender washers. These will form a flat spot bigger than the hole when I use a heat gun to soften the panel from the inside. Then with gloves on, pull up on the bolt head while holding back at the arrows with the other hand, until it cools.
I should have gone a little more than I did here, but not bad for now.

Great write up. Where did you find that 50th Anniv projectors. I found some general Camaro projectors but not the 50th

I created the image layout in Paint Shop Pro, and had it printed out in the correct size to color slides. Then I replaced the gobo's in a set of inexpensive projectors. If your interested, this site has a great tutorial on creating your own gobo's.

There are also services for the google-ing that will take any graphic or photo of yours and sell you completed projectors ready to install.
AAC/Oracle has a Camaro FIFTY specific design available, that the distortion I mentioned would not be noticeable. On the driver side it is blank in that area, and on the passenger are lines radiating out.

Man, I loved your posting about the lights. I really want to do this to my car. Can you somehow to send me the artwork. I will pay you for it. I really don't know how to make that logo the way you did it.

UPDATE: A Better Switch

I've found a switch with a shorter plunger, that does not need trimming. If the rubber cap falls off the old switch, the light will just stay on untill it burns out or bleaches out the graphic slide. I've also edited the rest of the tutorial.

Update: Pre-made CUSTOM Projectors
 

I've found out while needing replacements, that there is now a vendor selling through Amazon that will sell you pre-assembled projectors with your graphics for $26 (17.99 + 8 sh - not prime) Search "NEWL Custom Logo LED" for an assortment of wired, like I used here, and battery powered projectors.
I'll update on the quality of these in the future.
