Two coolant tanks, different fluid
1 Attachment(s)
I just took delivery of my 2022 1LE in Shadow Grey Metallic last weekend, and this has me stumped.
It has an lower reservoir with the orange coolant, and a upper reservoir with pink coolant. The two reservoirs seem to be not connected to one another other than thru the engine. In other words, even thought they sit on top of one another, there is no hole between them. Any ideas |
It’s the same coolant. Enjoy your beautiful car and get those break in miles on it. And the really enjoy the car.

The top tank is the reservoir and should be full to the top. The bottom tank is the overflow tank and it's level is OK. There should be a diagram in the owner's manual that demonstrates and explains all this. Don't worry about the color - its the same coolant in both tanks. The different tank plastic thicknesses and composition are probably distorting the color. The dealership missed getting the coolant levels correct in the delivery prep.
Congrats and enjoy your new ride! |
I have an alternative theory, since the top reservoir is not full: the dealership saw an empty lower chamber and topped it up to the correct level with their orange coolant, then for some reason left the top chamber alone. The pink coolant the factory uses is not readily available outside gm, I use orange dexcool myself, too.

Thanks, they missed a few things, like tire pressure at 44psi etc. |
top one needs to be full to the very top and the lower one to the line on the side which is hard to see...the line is on the right side of the lower tank. Fill the lower tank through the little flip up black cap if necessary...lower tank level appears fine in your pic. Both tanks are part of the same system.
