How does the Boston Acoustic System sound?

I'm a big fan of bass, and I know this system pumps out 200 watts, but how does it actually sound??? Or should I get the subwoofer put in?

Like a$$. It's a horrible system. If you saw the PCB of the amp that pushes "200 watts" you'd laugh. If you're old school, think "Pyramid" quality of amps.

That said, the bass is ok. But it'll distort quickly with anything intensive.

The Boston Accoustic "Upgrade" as far as I know is only for the speakers near the rear glass. So to be fair it's not really an upgrade.... LOL

It sure doesn't go down to 20hz.

Devryn17 12-05-2011 07:11 AM

I don't like it. IMO it sounds like any other cars stock system. It doesn't SOUND upgraded to me. The Sony system in my wife's Taurus thumps. She laughs at my cars audio...Well...Until I rev the motor and drowned out her laughs.

Ouch... Pyramid!? Damn... that's shootin' low ... whew! I remember those POS's ... damn they sucked crap through a straw.

I had Fosgates at the time and a couple of the Alpine 4 channel 800w jobs with a soundstream active crossover network... more knobs on that sucker than all heck.

I wouldn't put it in the same ballpark as pyramid but it is pretty poor. Not terrible for a factory system but doesn't compare to a middle of the road aftermarket system. I thought it was somewhat decent for about 2 or 3 days but I think that was mostly because I haven't had any type of sub in a vehicle in like 2-3 years.

As far as factory systems go, it's just okay. I've heard much better sounding factory systems. I guess they had to skimp somewhere to keep cost down.

The BA speaker system is average to poor quality, in my opinion. Bass is muddy, overall sound lacks clarity and fullness.

Mud 12-05-2011 09:32 PM

Sounds tinny and sparse. If they're going to include an audio this lousy, they should just delete the system, save me the money so I can buy the components that need to be in there for a quality audio system.

There's no headroom, little power and the speaker sound awful. Other than that, it's excellent.

Supermaro585HP 12-05-2011 09:41 PM

I thought it sounded pretty good for a stock system. I had problems with my back speakers and put Focal speakers with a ARC amp. In the spring I will be putting in a new head unit. I wanted to wait until I get it out in the spring to see what new head units come out.

I think it depends on how important music and sound quality are to you. I'm by no means an audiophile so for me, the Boston "upgrade" sounds pretty damn good compared to other stock systems I've had (especially in the C6 Corvette). The technology package with USB stick and AUX out really make it a nice system for me. I also really don't want to start cutting and taking apart the interior to install aftermarket stuff, as for this car I'm looking to stay as stock as possible. Good luck with your choice! :chevy:
