GM Performance Intake Pulled for 2021

What's the real story on why I can't get an Intake for my 2021? I got some generic explanation of something emissions related. However, what I don't understand is why it can still be ordered if it comes from the factory but not as an add-on later. If there was a change in emissions standards in 2021 that made the intake not compliant then I would think it wouldn't be available at all. On the flip side if it's available if built with it presumably GM has done the proper testing to ensure it meets emissions standards and there is no risk of huge EPA fines.

Isn't it still CARB certified? I though that alone makes it EPA complaint because Cali is more strict than federal so if it's ok there it's ok anywhere.

What am I missing here?

Also are there any plans to bring it back? If so, when?

I placed an order a few weeks ago for my 2021 or 2022 SS 1LE. I added the GM CAI. Sales did not indicate there was an issue; however GM has not received the order yet since allocations have not been given.

I just ordered one for my 2020. What's the maintenance on that filter? Is that something you replace or clean?

Just order it from here, way cheaper than getting it through your dealer...

20% off right now through chevy accessories site, free shipping, plus points you can use for future purchases makes it pretty even.

It may be like my 21 Silverado. If not ordered when the car was new, the dealer cannot get the update from tech center. https://gm-techlink.com/?p=14771

This, I know I can technically buy the intake from a vendor / Member but would have no way of getting the dealer to install the software that goes with it. My fear is should there be some sort of major engine issue GM would deny warranty since it's "technically" not compatible with a 2021

Reading that link it makes even less sense since it's a dealer installed option... there is literally no difference between the dealer installing it on one that has it in the order code vs one that was getting it as an accessory.

Well, that is the official GM tech link site. Seems like they are changing the business model. I also saw the 2021 performance catalog removed almost all CAI except the Colorado...
