2018 Camaro SS 1LE Baseline
2 Attachment(s)
Took the Camaro in to Superior Automotive for a baseline before doing any tuning or modding. Dyno was a Dynojet. Ambient temp ~84 degrees F. Humidity ~ 50%. Correction factor SAE. Made 403 RWHP and 404 RWTQ on pass #2 and made 404 RWHP and 408 RWTQ on the third pass. First pass not recorded/printed.
Their tuner, Tad, was very helpful. He datalogged the runs for me. PCM was pulling between 3-5 degrees of timing due to knock retard, thanks to California's wonderful 91 octane fuel. Time to tune. |
Those are a bit low but that makes sense if you're getting knock already. Good luck with the tune, they should be able to wake it up. The factory really left some power on the table with these LT motors.

no e85 or other mods just 91 octane tune?

Dyno
No tune. No mods. No E85. Just run as received with 91 octane.

Tuned

So the car was tuned today at Excelsior Motorsports in Escondido. http://www.excelsiormotorsports.com/ The car baselined about the same as it did on Superior's Dynojet. Kushan did a 91 octane tune and we got the red line on the dyno sheet-396 HP/401 TQ with the engine hot. Then he drained out what was left of the 91 and put in the 14 gallons of E85 that I brought. Final numbers on E85 were 434 HP and 438 TQ. The only mods on the car are a Soler Performance throttle body and a flex fuel sensor kit. Overall I am happy with the tune. The car is noticeably quicker. Going to take the car back to Superior for a baseline just to see what kind of gains were achieved on the same dyno.

Took the car back to Superior Automotive to see where it is with the Soler Performance Throttle Body and an E85 tune, in order to compare it with the stock baseline. Picked up about 30 ft-lbs. of torque and 30 HP. Car was a little lean and behaving strangely above 6200 RPM. Fixed the fueling immediately, but the car is going to have to be retuned on a dyno to sort out the high RPM issue. Waiting on a Pray Ported intake manifold and Soler Performance 95mm throttle body before heading back to the dyno. Hoping to hit 450/450 when it is dialed in with the new mods.
Edit: After reviewing the datalogs, we found that the PCM was going into closed loop at ~6200 RPM. After reducing the PE Mode load threshold numbers a bit, the problem was resolved. |
Great info! Thank you!

Good to see some real information for a change. Baseline and modded data from the same dyno, nicely done.

Good stuff, and going for more. I'd like to see how our 95 mm will do w/ your set up. Are you running or will be running the 95mm with stock intake?

Agreed - good stuff!
Thanks for doing it. |
Retune

The car was re-tuned yesterday for the new mods. This car was base-lined bone stock July 31, 2019 at Superior Automotive's Dyno Jet and made 404 torque/403 WHP. Then we added a flex fuel kit and a Soler Performance throttle body and had the car tuned. The Camaro made 438 torque/434 WHP-(note it was going back into closed loop above 6,000 RPM in this dyno session-hence the power dip).
Since that dyno session in September of 2019, we added the following mods-Roto Fab CAI, Soler Performance 95 MM throttle body and Soler Performance 95 MM to 87 MM adapter, Pray Performance ported stock intake manifold, and New Era Performance cat delete pipes. Took the car to Church Automotive Testing in Wilmington, CA and had it retuned. It made 506 ft-lbs. of torque/492 WHP on the Dynapack dyno. If you are not familiar with the Dynapack, the dyno bolts directly to the hubs and eliminates the inertia of the wheel and tires, thus it reads higher than most Dyno Jets. This morning we took the car back to Superior's Dyno Jet to see where the car is compared to where it was. The car made 468 ft-lbs of torque/464 WHP. In summary, with the modifications and the tune, the car gained 64 ft-lbs of torque and 61 WHP. About 30tq/30WHP can be attributed to switching to E85. That concludes this test. Heads/cam/headers on the drawing board for 2021. |
...and over 450 it was. Congrats NA18, I can see you overachieved. You must be happy. Thank you for sharing the data and keeping everything organized and understandable through the process.
