5th Gen Z/28 Wheels on 6th Gen ZL1
I'm preparing to sell my 2011 SGM 2SS and buy a 2017-2018 ZL1. I have a set of 5th Gen Z/28 wheels that I would like to use for autocross on the ZL1. Will these fit?
|
Are they OEM Z28 sizing or are they 10" (Front) 11" (rear) which is standard 1LE/ZL1 measurements? OEM Z28 wheels are 19x11 and 19x11.5 for front and rear respectively.
OEM 5th and 6th gen ZL1s sizing is 20x10 and 20x11, if they're those measurements, then they'll fit. If they're 11" and 11.5" OEM Z28 wheels, then I don't know. |
I want a set for my car so I have looked into it. They will fit, a few guys here are running them on zl1 1le's. On mag ride cars the front fitament is tight so you can not stray from the factory camber without a spacer.

There are OEM Z/28 wheels so it sounds like I'm good to as long as I keep factory camber.
Thanks Y'all. |

So here’s the verdict. Yes! Conditionally.

Grinding away just a tiny bit of the strut would work as well. What do you all think? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They work great on the ZL1 1LE.....as there is more clearance in the suspension of course.
If they are that close on the ZL1, I'd consider grinding the strut a bit. You'd hate to tear up a wheel under suspension compression. |
Its need to be lowered to close the gap.

The Z wheels look great on a ZL1 and ZL1 1LE.
Grinding the MRC strut has been covered. Check out these threads and others in the 1LE forum: http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=487124 http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486305 http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...32#post9590532 There is nothing wrong in using a spacer to gain clearance, so long as you buy quality and sweat the details (longer studs, hub and wheel centric, lug nut engagement, etc). I’ve used them for years at the track and street. |

Thanks for the links! What’s the generally recommended clearance? Somewhere I recall hearing the diameter of a pencil. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yeah, Pete from JPSS has always said a #2 pencil width which is about 7mm.

I thought your user name sounded familiar, you had the Synergy Green 5Th Gen and Z suspension. Nice upgrade!
