Differential Fluid
 

Has anyone changed their Differential fluid since they bought their car new? Is it supposed to be drained and refilled after a break in period? I'm thinking it doesn't.

I did because of the e diff in the 1le, better safe than sorry

Mine was changed at 1000mi and 6000mi, but also a 1LE.

Well, damn! I have over 1,000 miles on mine and I haven’t changed the diff fluid. I hope my diff doesn’t lock up on me and leave me stranded. Lol. Does it say to change it that early someplace? I have not read that anywhere, but I can’t honestly say that I’ve read every page of the manual either. Seems a little excessive to me.

Manual says to change it at 72K kms (44K miles), or after 20 hours of track use.

Most here are hedging to be on the safe side. I drive my car hard but have not yet tracked it. I've also not changed the diff fluid (also called rear axle fluid, according to the manual).

Doubt a mass produced car just driven on street needs this before manufacture interval. Road course use sure.
I did mine at 40k.

im not arguing with anyone. its a fact. Thats the problem with forums and why pros dont get on them. People talking about stuff they know nothing about. You can tell someone the answer but someone who wants to be cheap will argue to justify saving $20. Call a pro or pull the drain plug and see the metal and black oil. Gears need to break in on any car. Q the keyboard warriors.

2020 2SS, I changed my oil and differential fluid at 505 miles, next change is at 1,500 miles (I don't track the car), then I will change every 3,000 miles after (might do the differential every 6,000 miles)...

My motto has always been... "Fluids are cheap, components are not..."

(Disclaimer: I do my maintenance myself, so the cost of doing these changes for me is merely materials but an oil change is still a solid $100 and the diff is still something like $25...)

The first 1,500 miles is the Break-in period!

I had the rear diff groan after a couple thousand miles. The TSB fix is a rear diff flush. The tech was shocked how dirty the fluid was considering the mileage on the car and he's used to changing fluid. I've had no noises since it was changed. If I had to do it over again, I'd change it at 500 miles at least and maybe once more after 1000-2000 miles.

Changed mine around 1400-1500 miles. I will do it again around 3000. Does it absolutely need to be changed that soon? Probably not but it's not difficult nor expensive and the peace of mind is worth it to me.
