Roll Bar - Anyone make one?

Just wondering if anyone makes a roll bar for the 6th gen convertible?

I'm looking for one that's easy to install and won't damage the interior much.

RPM MAKES A BOLT IN NHRA APPROVED ROLL BAR/ CAGE FOR $1200

Rpm roll cage is on phasteks site

RPM seems to be the go to bolt in brand... Does anyone have, or know of someone who has experience with the install on our Gen6 Verts? Maybe a video? How bad is the subsequent in/out assembly/disassembly after the initial install? Since doing one late season track day in Oct, I expect a few more will be in store for next year. That said I would like to eventually try other tracks and the Vert may not be as warmly welcomed as it was at my first track day without the added roll "protection".

driven2exceSS 02-07-2018 02:42 PM

Anyone move forward yet with said RPM roll bar??? :bonk:

driven2exceSS 02-10-2018 01:30 PM

Well I talked to Rob at RPM rollbars yesterday and will be following up with him in a couple more weeks. The roll bar for the 6th Gen convertible IS listed on their website although still in the R&D stage. He said he had like 11 vehs in and around the shop as we spoke and most were Camaro's, one of which was the R.A.D 6th Gen Vert. So see what happens. I must say if I go forward with this, if I wasn't already nervous enough, I'm even more so with the idea of apparently being one of the pioneers in doing this generations convertible install. And after having surfed over on Camaro5 regarding the Vert rollbar, and communicating with guys that have since installed the Coupe rollbar (across all Gens), this is not going to be as easy of an install I had hoped.:frusty: Ok, now back to letting the crickets sing some more. :lalala:

FdeleonZ28 02-22-2018 01:05 PM

I'm interested ! ill need it when I hit 10s lol hope it turns out nice

driven2exceSS 03-09-2018 08:03 AM

Update... Rob (RPM Rollbars) emailed me back 3/7 stating they are still behind in the R&D install on the Vert, they still have a car at their shop although has been "no progress"

driven2exceSS 03-30-2018 09:26 PM

Another update... Reached out to Rob again on Weds 3/28. The response back is that there are now like 14 people on his Vert "waiting list", and he also implied that they are currently now working on it. Anybody else have any info? Same or otherwise? :pop2:

Yes actually, but not good. Emailed Rob (again) April 17th & 21st, heard back on the 23rd that they are "Not quite ready yet, over half done tho." He had some "rush jobs" come in, and was expecting to resume again after this Friday... :frusty:
Honestly, I think I will see a dedicated coupe track car in my future before going this route at this point.

FdeleonZ28 04-30-2018 04:49 PM

someone on the facebook pages posted his self fabricated roll bar and It looked sweet. ill see if I can find the pic.

Homey Da Clown 05-03-2018 07:31 AM

Would like to see pics. I am trying to figure out a design for my car.

Sorry don't get on here often.. I attached some pics. I love the look and he has it so it bolts in and bolts out when he needs the back seat for his kids. utilizes the rear seat belt bolt holes

driven2exceSS 05-21-2018 03:43 PM

Hmmm... Tubing diameter looks a lil small, or is because it's raw pipe? But exactly the concept I would "need"/like as far as the removal as well. Would this appease the more finicky tracks with their tech specs I wonder?

Well, if that rollbar is complete it is nowhere near legal. I would even venture to say that itlooks like it has the potential to cause more i jury than it may prevent.

Maybe, but hey if u know of one other than RPMs unseen rollbar/cage.. let us know.!

Homey Da Clown 05-23-2018 09:57 AM

4200#

I have some experience building a roll cage back in the 90s in an 1800lb mini stock asphalt oval car. It never went on it's top but was hit front, rear and sides on every inch in the 3 yrs a friend of mine drove it. No injuries.
I have an A10 HBM Vert. These things weigh around 4200 lbs. Track speeds 130+ and street speeds ???? On the track if one of these goes upside down it's going to take a lot to keep it off of your head. On the street you can't have the bar within reach of your head or your passengers head. Without going full cage I'm considering a custom that is a combination of RSR and RPM but welded in. Hate to do that to to such a nice car but.....

mspeed1LE 05-23-2018 10:40 AM

I went with the RSR bar but welded it in.

I saw your pics in another thread. Very nice! Man your going to have some fun with that car. Share some track stories and pics.

wildchevy 05-24-2018 11:00 PM

ihra nhra both require a 6 point so nothing I have seen yet will be class legal, if your going to race forget the vert.

Bumping this thread for update. Wanted to do SCCA Track Night in America on the ROVAL at Charlotte with my 2SS Convertible, but it won't pass tech due to having not having a roll bar with the V8 (Could run a 6 without but not the Turbo 4), https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/...-equipment-car and https://dk1xgl0d43mu1.cloudfront.net...pdf?1488483974

Looking for something online that would fit the bill, and all I see is for Gen 5. Any updates here?

Just found RPM's website and this is what they are showing for Gen 6 Convertible, http://rpmrollbar.com/camaro-sixth-generation/

FdeleonZ28 06-18-2018 09:23 AM

rpm is sayin that they have 2 customer cars left until they resume R&D on the 6th gen vert. before they took on the work they were 80% complete

Interesting, Ty for the update! Rob had been very good at responding to my emails, and has not replied to my last (2) inquiries on the vert status. Not sure how I feel about that? Maybe it means they are hard at work? IDK But thanks again for sharing the latest, much appreciated :headbang:

FdeleonZ28 06-19-2018 09:31 AM

no problem! Yea he hasn't responded to my second email either, sent me one about where they stand but hasn't got back to me on my reply since last week:noidea:

Gave up.... went custom bolt in. Similar to the blue vert in post #16. The rollbar should be heading to the power coater tomorrow! Pic is of it only tact welded. When I left he was finishing the welds, adding some gussets, and then off she goes to get pretty... I expect it will be plenty good enough to get me on more tracks for HPDE events. If anyone has any negative comments, please back it up with details of what should be done different to better anyone else choosing or having to go this route. :respekt:

TLSTWIN 07-12-2018 12:47 PM

it looks nice, but I push my car hard. I would need to make sure it would keep me safe if something tragic happens. I don't like a false sense of security. I don't want to just "look the part" . Please keep this thread updated if you find out for sure it is "legit". I like the fact this one simply bolts in and out, nothing permanent. I guess I want the best of both worlds. Stock when not tracking, security/safety on the track.

What is it actually bolting to? Is it frame points?

niice set up! in for pics with PC and installed! I was talking to a local shop about a roll bar like the one I posted and pricing was actually not bad but a lot of the classes I like to race in require full interior so I'm hopping RPMs version doesn't require to remove the rear seats.

Hello all,

Just wanted to take a quick second and post that my car will be going to RPM Roll Bar on Monday, September 20th. They will be installing a 6pt Roll Bar (color matched), RPM harness kit, Seat belt mounting kit, Seat back rest as well as a color matched firewall. As the installation progresses they will send me photos of the installation and I will post in this thread.
