GM Attempts to Fix Gen 6 Sluggish Sales
I was trying to get the production numbers for 2016 Convertibles & came across this gem from Wiki:
"In October, 2016, Chevrolet announced that there would be a 2017 base 1LS trim level of the Camaro that would be introduced by the end of November, 2016. Trim level content for the 1LS will be identical to that of the current base 1LT trim, with the exception that the 2.0L Turbocharged Inline Four-Cylinder (I4) engine and 6-speed manual transmission would be the only available powertrain options for the 1LS trim, and it would be available exclusively as a Coupe. Moreover, the 1LT trim now receives the 8-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles as standard equipment for 2017. Pricing for the 1LS trim will start at around $26,000. This follows the announcement that Chevrolet would be lowering prices throughout the 2017 Camaro lineup." Wiki sited GM Authority. Chevy, I bet it was a hard lesson to learn, jacking up prices too high. |
Lol.... It's way too late and I definitely don't think the price is the big problem but oh well.

I certainly do not want them cancelling the Camaro for another 10 years...or worse, forever. |

That would put a base model right in the range for the wife's new daily, too bad she won't drive a manual.

He said it would come with the 8 speed auto

Pricing of the Gen6's definitely set me back; when I compared used 2014's to 2017's, the 2014's go for about 60% of the 2017's. So you can basically get a similar car for nearly 1/2 off with a lot of life left. Plus there's nothing really different about the Gen6's - same basic design, same engines, maybe a nicer interior, but smaller overall. $15-20k is a lot of extra money for that.

Price IS an issue but performance cars across the board are sucking air right now and I'm not entirely sure why.
I do know that the Gen6 has had a lukewarm reception to say the least.. 27,000 camaros on dealers lots right now. If you're looking for one, they most certainly will have the 20% off MSRP again this fall. |

New LT based engines, more power, and much lighter/better handling. The gen 6 is a totally new car built on a different platform. There's a lot of technology built into these new cars. But I agree the price difference is nuts. Better off waiting a couple years and then picking one up lightly used. |

Some people feel they're too cramped. I don't fit in the gen6 at all due to the roof height so it was completely off the board for me. They should have taken the first 1000 Gen 6's and drove them straight to the shredder. So many people got hosed with the initial rollout.. It was ugly. |
Joe public doesnt even know the 6h gen exists. No marketing by GM doesnt help. There is a 50th in my work lot....people walk by and dont look twice at it. Walking out after work with a group of people the other day i made a point to mention the new Camaro. Nobody knew what that car was.

I saw a new ATS today with 2.0T badging and I thought "oh look, that's basically the same car as the Camaro underneath". I am not sure if that is good or bad. I get that the Gen6's is a totally new car and a good car; the performance is impressive but the Gen5 is no slouch either. If price were no object, I'd love to have one (at least with the V6 though), but the Gen6's just doesn't feel "better" in enough ways to justify the price tag. |
