New ZL1 Modifications

Hello everyone I just got a new 2018 ZL1 and never owning a boosted car or modifying one I need a little help on what I should do. for the mods I'm going to keep it simple I was thinking, 2" Headers with 3" exhaust no Cats, CAI, tune, and pulley upgrade.(I'm wanting 15psi or more safely) the part I need help with is the Pulley what kind of pulley would you guys with ZL1's recommend with these mods and if it was on a stock car. will switching a pully throw a check engine code? Thanks for the help!

I did a bunch of research on this and I am doing exactly what you are doing. I am not exactly sure what amount of boost this pulley is putting out but Ted from Jennetty racing recommended this pulley, ATI-916227 along with a new ATI damper, ATI-918856. Also needed a crank bolt and crank seal. With his tune and all of the above mentioned mods it should easily put down another 100HP.

I’m doing the same thing but with ported throttle body. I don’t think it’ll make 15psi. More like 13psi. At any rate from what others have shown a result of about 640-660 RWHP. I feel that a damn good increase:

My build is similar to the one you are planning. Yes, adding a pulley to an otherwise stock car, with no corresponding tune, would throw a CEL.

That is WAY too much pulley. Period. Pick upper OR lower, and do not go over 15% or you will eventually regret it. Yes it can be done, but you'll have to have a helluva lot more supporting mods to go with it.

Yea, do not do that. Read a bit more on the forum and you will quickly see that 15% is plenty. With what you have you will spin the blower more than it can produce good results with. Any shop that has done an LT4 will say the same.

Too, too much unless you have a whole lot more supporting mods. Go upper or lower. Keep it reasonable, 15-18% tops. Headers are a must, go 2 inches with a pulley. A very good exhaust is the ARH full system. Excellent quality, deep muscle car rumble, minimal drone and zero rasp from a catless exhaust. This is just from my experience. I really don't know what your overall goal is. FWIW, my build with just a lower is pretty mild, it sacrifices no drivability but it is crazy fast for the street.

Or don't mod it, go road course racing, feed it brakes and tires.

He's not wrong ;) unless mods to sig line matter more than seat time.

EDFHOBBIES 12-14-2018 07:59 AM

You could port the blower, add a 103mm TB, Headers, and modify the stock box or buy a CAI and still Road Course with no issues and still make 100 hp..

Or if your going to go the pulley route save some money take advantage of the EBAY's 10 to 15% coupon they have 1 or 2x a month..

Here's the list to run a Lower

ATI 918856W Damper $325.00 -440.0
ATI 916227 or Lingenfelter L220170709 135.00 -137.50 or DSX has some now
GATES Greenback k080845HD 28.00
Texas Speed Headers $599.00
LS1 ATI 951499 damper bolt summit 9.75
NGK 6510 1 step cooler plugs 8- 10 each
